## Short answer

AI for Infor WMS connects a private model to warehouse inventory, receipts, tasks and shipments, using ION messaging and APIs where available or a read-only database copy where the edition allows, and joins them with ERP orders from SyteLine, M3, LN or another system. Staff ask in plain English and see the source query; the WMS remains the system of record.

## Intro

Infor WMS is deployed in more variations than most warehouse systems, because Infor has acquired and consolidated several products over time. Some customers run the older supply chain execution lineage on a relational database; others run newer cloud-delivered editions; and many pair it with an Infor ERP such as SyteLine, M3 or LN, or with something else entirely. Before any AI work, you have to know exactly which Infor WMS and which version you run.

The common thread is ION, Infor's integration layer, which carries business documents between Infor applications. When ION is in place, it is the cleanest path for getting WMS and ERP events into a governed store, and for writing back approved requests. Where it is not, a read-only database copy or scheduled extracts fill the gap.

Warehouse managers in manufacturing and distribution tend to ask the same cross-system questions: is this material received, is it putaway, why is the work order short, which customer orders are blocked by inventory that is physically on site but not available. Those answers sit across the WMS and the ERP, and the standard reports rarely join them the way the question needs.

Infor has its own AI and analytics offerings across its cloud platform, which are worth evaluating first for in-platform use. This page explains where a private layer fits, how it connects, and what to ask a vendor before pointing a model at your warehouse data.

## Pain Points

### Several Infor lineages under one name

**Detail:** Version and edition determine whether you integrate by ION, API, or database replica. Assumptions about one edition fail on another.

### Available versus physically present stock

**Detail:** Material can be on site but held, in quality inspection or in the wrong location, and the ERP only sees part of that picture.

### ERP and WMS disagree and nobody knows why

**Detail:** Mismatches come from unprocessed messages, partial receipts or manual adjustments, and finding the cause is slow.

### Reports are fixed, questions are not

**Detail:** Standard reports cover known needs; new questions wait for someone who knows the schema or the report designer.

### Mobile and RF workflows hide information

**Detail:** Operators see one task at a time on a handheld; broader context for why a task exists is not visible to them.

## Use Cases

### Received but not available analysis

**Description:** Find material that is physically received but unavailable to the ERP, and show whether it is held, in inspection or awaiting putaway.

**Erp Objects:** WMS receipts, inventory status and holds, putaway tasks, ERP item availability

**Outcome:** Closes a common cause of false shortages; clearing a hold remains a quality or warehouse decision.

### Work order shortage explanation

**Description:** For a short work order, show the component's journey: purchase order, receipt, location, status and allocations.

**Erp Objects:** ERP work order and material lines, purchase orders, WMS inventory and tasks

**Outcome:** Replaces a manual trace across two systems with a sourced answer in seconds.

### Message and interface error triage

**Description:** Group failed or pending ION documents or interface rows by cause and affected orders.

**Erp Objects:** ION document status, interface error tables, receipts, shipments

**Outcome:** Speeds finding which failures actually block shipments or receipts.

### Cycle count targeting

**Description:** Rank locations and items for counting based on variance history, adjustments and movement velocity.

**Erp Objects:** Count history, adjustments, inventory transactions, location master

**Outcome:** Concentrates counting where discrepancies cluster; a person approves the plan.

### Shipment readiness view

**Description:** Show which customer orders are ready to ship, partly picked or blocked, and why, with a drafted summary for customer service.

**Erp Objects:** Orders, pick tasks, allocations, shipments, carrier cutoffs

**Outcome:** Reduces interruptions to warehouse leads for routine order status questions.

### Lot and expiry watch

**Description:** List lots approaching expiry or on hold across locations and tie them to open demand.

**Erp Objects:** Lot attributes, expiry dates, holds, ERP demand lines

**Outcome:** Helps planners act earlier on at-risk stock; disposition decisions stay with quality.

### Configuration and customisation lookup

**Description:** Index configuration exports and custom interface documentation so staff can ask how a process is set up.

**Erp Objects:** Configuration exports, custom interface specs, process documents

**Outcome:** Reduces dependence on one or two experts; accuracy tracks documentation quality.

## Architecture

**Overview:** The layer reads from Infor WMS through ION and APIs where present, or through a read-only replica, lands governed data in a store you control, joins it to ERP data, and serves a private model. Writes, if any, go through ION or the application's own workflow with human approval.

**Layers:**

#### WMS connector

**Detail:** ION documents and APIs for cloud or ION-enabled editions; read-only database replica or scheduled extracts for database-backed editions.

#### ERP connector

**Detail:** Reads orders, work orders and item data from SyteLine, M3, LN or another ERP so warehouse facts tie to demand.

#### Semantic layer

**Detail:** Maps warehouse terms and your site-specific statuses and holds to business vocabulary.

#### Model serving

**Detail:** Open-weight model on vLLM or Ollama on customer GPUs or in a private tenant.

#### Governance and audit

**Detail:** Per-user query logging, role mapping, and approval for any proposed write.

## Deployment Options

### Air-gapped on-prem

**Fit:** Database-backed Infor WMS inside controlled networks.

**Detail:** Model and connectors run on customer hardware reading a replica, no outbound path.

### Private or sovereign cloud

**Fit:** Customers on cloud-delivered editions.

**Detail:** Dedicated tenant with private connectivity, separate from shared AI services.

### Hybrid

**Fit:** Mixed estates after acquisition.

**Detail:** Federated query layer with per-site residency and role mapping.

## Compliance

### Customer-hosted architecture lets the customer's own program control who may query controlled part data. Netray holds no export registration.

**Framework:** ITAR and EAR (customer-determined)

### Read-only access with query logging supports audit trails; records of record stay in the WMS and ERP.

**Framework:** FDA and GxP lot control (where applicable)

### Consignee and contact data can be masked unless a role needs it.

**Framework:** GDPR and regional privacy

### Logging, role mapping and no external model egress support questionnaire answers.

**Framework:** Customer security reviews

## Integration Notes

- Confirm the Infor WMS edition and version first; the integration path depends on it.
- Where ION is in use, subscribe to the relevant business documents for events and keep a governed copy, rather than polling production.
- For database-backed editions, use a read-only replica and never query the production OLTP instance.
- Agree the join keys between WMS and ERP (item, order, lot, receipt reference) in discovery.
- Map site-specific statuses, holds and custom attributes explicitly in the semantic layer.
- Any write-back should be a drafted request through ION or the application's workflow, approved by a person.

## Product Fit

### ERPray

**Why:** Natural-language joins of WMS status and ERP demand; read-only by default; works with Infor and non-Infor ERPs.

### SyteRay

**Why:** Where the ERP is SyteLine or CloudSuite Industrial, SyteRay accelerators help with SyteLine-side reports and customisation that the warehouse questions depend on.

### DataRay

**Why:** For chatting with WMS replicas, interface logs and process documents together on-prem.

## Buyer Questions

- Which Infor WMS edition and version do we run, and what path does that imply?
- Is ION available, and which documents would be used?
- Does anything query the production database directly?
- How are our custom statuses, holds and attributes mapped?
- Can you show the query and sources behind every answer?
- Where does the model run and what leaves our network?
- How is any write-back approved?
- What do we keep if we stop?

## Faq

### Does this work if our ERP is not from Infor?

**Answer:** Yes. The WMS and ERP connectors are separate, so the layer can join Infor WMS with SAP, Oracle, Microsoft, Epicor or another ERP. The shared work is agreeing identifiers for items, orders and lots.

### How does ION fit in?

**Answer:** Where ION is deployed, it is the cleanest way to receive WMS and ERP business events and to route approved requests back. Where it is not, a read-only database replica or scheduled extracts provide the data instead.

### Is Infor's own AI enough?

**Answer:** For in-platform capabilities on cloud editions, evaluate Infor's offerings first. A private layer fits when you need cross-system questions with a non-Infor ERP, when policy bars external AI services, or when the WMS is a database-backed edition with limited native AI.

### Can it explain why stock is not available to the ERP?

**Answer:** Often, yes. It checks holds, inspection status, putaway state and unprocessed messages and lists likely reasons with sources. Releasing a hold stays with the responsible warehouse or quality role.

### Will it change warehouse data?

**Answer:** Not by default. It is read-only. Drafted requests are routed through ION or the application's workflow for a person to approve.

### How long does a pilot take?

**Answer:** Usually six to eight weeks after discovery. The slowest steps tend to be provisioning read access and agreeing identifiers, not the model itself.

### What hardware is needed?

**Answer:** A small number of GPUs, or a private cloud tenant, for a question-answering model. Sizing depends on concurrent users and model choice, set during discovery.
