## Short answer

AI for TrueCommerce connects a private model to your EDI transaction history, trading partner maps and ERP order data, so staff can ask why a document failed, which partner rule broke, or whether an order made it into the ERP. It runs on your infrastructure, reads data without changing maps, and sends nothing to a public model.

## Intro

TrueCommerce covers EDI with trading partners and ties those documents to ERP, accounting and warehouse systems through its integration tooling. For a mid-size manufacturer or distributor this usually means a mix of retailer, distributor and OEM customers, each with its own document set and its own mistakes to make.

In practice the platform is managed by a small group, sometimes one person. When an order does not appear in the ERP, they check the transaction log, open the map, compare the inbound X12 or EDIFACT file with the ERP import record, and ask the trading partner or the ERP consultant. Each case is a short investigation across three systems.

The pattern repeats: item cross-reference gaps, unit of measure differences, ship-to codes that do not exist in the ERP, taxes or freight terms that do not map. A person with experience resolves them quickly, but the experience is concentrated and the transaction history is rarely mined for patterns.

This page describes where a private AI layer helps around TrueCommerce, what access it needs, and where the platform's own monitoring and your ERP's standard reports are already enough.

## Pain Points

### Failed transactions need cross-system digging

**Detail:** A rejected document means opening the TrueCommerce log, the source file and the ERP import result separately. The analyst reconstructs the story each time.

### Maps are understood by few people

**Detail:** Field mappings and conditional logic built over years are hard to read. When a partner changes a segment, nobody wants to touch the map without the person who built it.

### Master data gaps cause repeat errors

**Detail:** Missing item cross-references, ship-to codes and UoM conversions produce the same exceptions weekly, but the fixes are applied one order at a time instead of at the source.

### Partner onboarding is repetitive

**Detail:** Every new customer needs a spec review, map build, test cycle and cutover. The translation from specification to mapping is mostly manual reading and typing.

### Reporting on EDI health is thin

**Detail:** Management asks how many documents failed last quarter and why. Answering needs exports and categorizing by hand, so the question often goes unanswered.

## Use Cases

### Failed transaction explainer

**Description:** Give a document or order number and get a plain-language explanation of where it stopped: partner validation, map error, or ERP import rejection.

**Erp Objects:** EDI transaction logs, ERP sales order import tables or API responses, X12 850 and 810 segments

**Outcome:** Triage time per exception drops from a multi-system hunt to a single lookup, with the evidence linked.

### Recurring exception mining

**Description:** Group a quarter of rejected transactions by cause, partner and field to find master data fixes that eliminate whole classes of error.

**Erp Objects:** Item master, customer cross-reference, ship-to and UoM tables, EDI rejection logs

**Outcome:** A ranked fix list; recurring exceptions fall once root cause rows are corrected.

### Map documentation

**Description:** Generate a readable summary of what an existing map does, which fields feed which, and which conditions apply.

**Erp Objects:** Exported map definitions, ERP import field specifications

**Outcome:** Knowledge no longer rests on one person; change requests are scoped faster.

### Spec to mapping draft

**Description:** Read a partner's implementation guide and propose a field mapping to ERP fields for analyst review.

**Erp Objects:** Partner implementation guides, ERP customer order fields, existing similar maps

**Outcome:** A first draft that saves reading time; testing and sign-off remain with the analyst.

### Order status for customer service

**Description:** Let customer service ask whether a given PO was received, acknowledged and shipped without involving EDI staff.

**Erp Objects:** ERP order and shipment status, 855 and 856 transmission records

**Outcome:** Fewer interruptions to the EDI team on routine status questions.

### Partner scorecard Q&A

**Description:** Ask which partners cause most exceptions or have the slowest acknowledgment turnaround.

**Erp Objects:** Transaction timestamps, 997 acknowledgments, partner master

**Outcome:** Evidence for partner conversations and for prioritizing clean-up work.

### Inbound document anomaly review

**Description:** Flag unusual quantities, prices or dates against order history before an order is released.

**Erp Objects:** ERP order history, price lists, inbound 850 lines

**Outcome:** Obvious data entry mistakes from partners are caught earlier; each flag is a suggestion for human review.

## Architecture

**Overview:** The AI layer reads EDI logs and map exports from TrueCommerce through the export options your subscription provides, joins them to ERP data through read-only views, and answers questions with the evidence attached.

**Layers:**

#### Transaction intake

**Detail:** Scheduled capture of document metadata, statuses and rejection reasons from supported exports or the ERP-side staging tables.

#### Map and spec library

**Detail:** Exported mapping definitions and partner guides indexed for explanation and drafting, with versions and dates.

#### ERP read access

**Detail:** Read-only SQL views or API calls to order, item, customer and shipment records.

#### Private model serving

**Detail:** Open-weight models running on your GPUs or in a private cloud, with no calls to public model APIs.

#### Review and audit

**Detail:** Draft maps and suggested master data fixes are queued for approval; all prompts and queries are logged.

## Deployment Options

### On-prem next to the ERP

**Fit:** Manufacturers with a data center and strict customer data handling

**Detail:** Single GPU node, read-only ERP login, file drop for TrueCommerce exports.

### Sovereign or private cloud

**Fit:** Companies on cloud ERPs

**Detail:** Dedicated tenant with private connectivity to the ERP API and a controlled landing zone for EDI exports.

### Starter on exports only

**Fit:** Teams that want to validate before ERP access is granted

**Detail:** Analyse exported transaction logs and partner guides alone, then add ERP joins in a second step.

## Compliance

### Contracts may restrict sharing partner data. Keeping processing on your infrastructure avoids a new third-party processor.

**Framework:** Trading partner agreements

### Read-only access and complete query logs support audit evidence; the AI posts nothing.

**Framework:** SOX controls over order-to-cash

### Where documents contain contact names or addresses, retention and access rules in your private store follow your policy.

**Framework:** GDPR and similar privacy law

### The partner's implementation guide is the authority; answers cite it rather than generic standard text.

**Framework:** ANSI X12 and EDIFACT

## Integration Notes

- Ask your TrueCommerce contact which log, export and API options your service level exposes before designing the intake.
- Capture the transaction ID, partner ID, document type, status and error text as the minimum record per document.
- Join to the ERP on PO number plus partner or customer ID; PO numbers alone can repeat across partners.
- Export maps in a readable format and store them with the date; explanations must refer to the version in production.
- Keep a read-only ERP role scoped to order, item, customer and shipment objects only.
- Do not give the AI credentials that can publish or change maps in production.

## Product Fit

### DataRay

**Why:** Chat across transaction logs, exported maps and partner guides that sit in files and databases outside the ERP.

### ERPray

**Why:** Answers and dashboards over the live ERP order and shipment data joined to EDI status.

## Buyer Questions

- What TrueCommerce data can we extract automatically at our service level?
- Does any partner or order data leave our network during processing?
- How does the system cope with maps that have been patched for years?
- Can the assistant show the evidence behind each explanation?
- Who approves suggested master data changes?
- What happens when the TrueCommerce platform or a partner guide changes?
- How do you measure whether the answers are right?

## Faq

### Can AI replace the TrueCommerce platform or its maps?

**Answer:** No. TrueCommerce remains the EDI network and mapping layer. The AI sits beside it to explain failures, mine exceptions and draft mappings for review. Production maps are still built, tested and approved by your analysts or the platform's services team.

### What ERPs does this work with?

**Answer:** Any ERP with accessible order and shipment data, including Infor SyteLine, M3, NetSuite, Epicor, SAP and Dynamics. TrueCommerce offers its own ERP connectors, and our layer reads the same ERP data through read-only views or APIs rather than replacing those connectors.

### Is my EDI data used to train a model?

**Answer:** No. We use open-weight models served on your infrastructure and do not send documents to a public model API. Retrieval over your data happens at question time, and any fine-tuning is a separate, explicit decision.

### How accurate are the failure explanations?

**Answer:** Accuracy depends on log quality. When the rejection text and the source document are available, explanations are usually reliable. We test against historical cases your analysts already resolved before trusting it with live triage.

### Does it work for EDIFACT as well as X12?

**Answer:** Yes, since the model reads documents and partner guides in either syntax. Your guide is the authority, and answers cite it. Region-specific variants such as automotive or retail subsets need those guides loaded.

### Is a pilot worth it for a small EDI volume?

**Answer:** Maybe not. If you handle a few hundred documents a month with one or two partners, the platform's built-in monitoring and a good spreadsheet may be enough. The value rises with partner count, exception volume and staff turnover.

### Can it write to the ERP?

**Answer:** Not by default. Writes are an optional, separately scoped step with human approval on every action, and we generally advise proving read-only value first.
