## Short answer

BarTender does not need a special SyteLine connector. The usual patterns are to have BarTender Integration Builder watch a database table or file that SyteLine populates, call it from a SyteLine event or custom process, or send it data over a web service. Pick the one that matches your volume and your tolerance for custom code.

## Kind

## System

syteline

## Erp

Infor SyteLine (CloudSuite Industrial)

## Module

## Query

bartender integration with infor syteline

## Alternate Queries

- SyteLine label printing BarTender
- BarTender database trigger SyteLine
- print labels from SyteLine

## Applies To

SyteLine 9.x and CloudSuite Industrial 10.x with Seagull/BarTender (Integration Builder or Automation editions)

## Steps

### Build a label integration

**Items:**

- List the label types and their data: shipping, item, lot, serial, pallet, with the fields each needs.
- Design the label templates in BarTender with named data sources for each field.
- Choose the trigger method: database trigger, file trigger, web service, or an HTTP request.
- For a database trigger, create a staging table that SyteLine writes to (through a custom event, stored procedure or IDO extension) with one row per label request.
- Configure BarTender Integration Builder to watch that table, read the row, print to the named printer and mark the row processed.
- Test with a few records, including edge cases like long descriptions and special characters.
- Add error handling: failed print status, retry, and a way to reprint.
- Secure the credentials used by BarTender to read the database, with read access limited to the staging objects.

## Sections

### Trigger options

**Body:**

A database trigger is the most common. SyteLine (or a custom process) inserts a request row, and BarTender polls and prints. It is simple, auditable and survives restarts, since unprocessed rows remain in the table.

A file trigger works when SyteLine or an intermediate job exports a text or XML file to a watched folder. A web service or HTTP trigger suits cloud-hosted CSI or when the print server is remote, with BarTender receiving a call carrying the label data.

### Getting data out of SyteLine

**Body:**

The cleanest route is to write the staging row from a SyteLine event, an IDO extension, or a stored procedure called by the process that needs the label (for example at shipment or receipt). Reading directly from live transaction tables with joins is possible but fragile across upgrades.

If you use Infor ION, a BOD or an API call can feed an external print service. This adds a middleware layer, so it is worthwhile where several systems need the same label data.

**Code:**

-- Staging table sketch (illustrative)
CREATE TABLE label_request (
  id INT IDENTITY PRIMARY KEY,
  label_type VARCHAR(30),
  item VARCHAR(30),
  lot VARCHAR(30),
  qty DECIMAL(18,4),
  printer VARCHAR(60),
  status VARCHAR(10) DEFAULT 'NEW',
  created DATETIME DEFAULT GETDATE()
);

### Hosted versus on-premises

**Body:**

On-premises SyteLine can reach BarTender directly on the same network, which keeps latency low and printer routing simple. Hosted CSI usually needs an outbound mechanism, like a secure web service or a local agent, since BarTender sits behind your firewall.

Keep label templates under version control and test after SyteLine upgrades, because any change to staging queries or field lengths can break prints silently.

## Pitfalls

- Reading live transaction tables directly, which break on upgrades.
- No status column, so rows reprint or are lost after a restart.
- Field length mismatches truncating barcodes.
- Using an admin database login for BarTender.
- No reprint path for operators.

## Ai Angle

A custom Netray build can add a private assistant over the same staging and ERP data to answer 'why did this label not print' by looking at request rows, printer status and the ERP transaction behind them. It is read-only. The label logic itself remains conventional BarTender configuration.

## Faq

### Does BarTender have a native SyteLine connector?

**Answer:** Generally not. Integration is built with BarTender's triggers (database, file, web service) and a staging table or export from SyteLine. Check current vendor documentation for any packaged option in your release.

### What is the simplest reliable approach?

**Answer:** A staging table written by SyteLine and watched by BarTender Integration Builder. It is easy to audit, supports reprints and does not depend on direct reads of transaction tables.

### Can it work with cloud-hosted CloudSuite Industrial?

**Answer:** Yes, but you need a secure path from the hosted system to your BarTender server, like a web service call or a local agent. Work out the network and security approach with your hosting provider.

### How do I support reprints?

**Answer:** Keep processed request rows with a status, and let a user reset the status to NEW or insert a copy. Log who reprinted and why for traceability.
