## Short answer

An operation is completed by reporting quantity and marking it complete on a labor transaction, either through the Kinetic MES shop floor screens or Labor Entry in the back office. The operation's complete flag then lets the next operation or job receipt proceed. Time and expense, customer managed inventory and corrective action are separate modules, each with its own entry screen and approval flow.

## Steps

### How to complete an operation

**Items:**

- Check the job is released and the operation is the next one to run. Operations behind an uncompleted prior step may be blocked, depending on your sequencing setup.
- On the shop floor, sign in to the MES (Manufacturing Execution System) screen, find the job and operation, and start your labor.
- When work finishes, end the activity and enter the quantity completed and any scrap quantity with a reason code.
- Tick the operation complete option when this is the final quantity. Without it the operation stays open for further reporting.
- If you are correcting after the fact, use Labor Entry in the back office to add or adjust the transaction, then approve it if approvals are required.
- Verify in Job Tracker or Job Entry that the operation shows complete and the quantity matches the job.
- Receive the finished quantity to stock or to the next job with Job Receipts to Inventory when the last operation completes.

## Sections

### Why operations will not complete

**Body:**

Typical blocks are an unreleased job, a prior operation incomplete when sequencing is enforced, missing employee setup or permissions, and quantity rules that prevent over-reporting. The error text usually names which rule fired; start with that message rather than changing the job.

If production quantity exceeds the job quantity, you may need to increase the job quantity or accept the over-run within the job's tolerance.

### Time and expense entry

**Body:**

Time and Expense Entry is for non-production time (project hours, indirect time) and employee expenses, entered by employees or on their behalf and then submitted for approval. After approval, costs flow to the project or cost center according to your setup.

Production labor is not entered here; it goes through shop floor labor entry. Mixing the two causes double counting or missing hours, so make the rule clear to employees.

### Customer managed inventory and corrective action

**Body:**

Customer managed inventory covers stock held at a customer site or tracked on their behalf. The details depend on your licensed modules and configuration, so confirm with your administrator which tools you have before building process around them.

Corrective action sits in the quality area: a non-conformance or audit finding is recorded, root cause and action assigned, and the result verified and closed. Link it to the part, job or supplier so repeat issues are visible.

## Pitfalls

- Forgetting the complete flag leaves operations open and blocks downstream receipts.
- Reporting scrap without a reason code makes scrap reports useless.
- Entering production time in Time and Expense double counts labor.
- Closing a corrective action without verification leaves the same defect to recur.

## Ai Angle

An assistant over your job and labor tables can list operations that have quantity reported but are not marked complete, or jobs idle for days at one work center. It reads the data and shows the query; the shop floor still records the completion.
