## Short answer

When an M3 manufacturing order shows components as short or unallocated, the cause is usually available stock that is not allocatable to this order, an allocation method that did not run, or a demand date and warehouse that do not match the stock. Compare the MO materials (MWOMAT) with the allocations (MITALO) and the item-warehouse balance, then fix the stock, the method or the warehouse rather than forcing the allocation.

## Erp

Infor M3

## Module

PMS / Manufacturing Orders

## Query

Infor M3 manufacturing order material not allocated shortage

## Alternate Queries

- M3 MO components not reserved
- M3 MWOMAT allocated quantity zero
- M3 manufacturing order missing material PMS100

## Applies To

Infor M3 Business Engine 13.x and later with the Production Management (PMS) module. Exact panel names vary by version and by how your site configured order types.

## Steps

### Diagnose a short or unallocated MO component

**Items:**

- Open the manufacturing order in the PMS MO programs and go to the materials panel. Note the component, required quantity, warehouse and required date.
- Check the item-warehouse balance for that component in that warehouse: on-hand, allocated, allocatable and any quantity on hold or in quarantine status.
- Look at the balance IDs. Stock with a status that is not allocatable, or in a location excluded from allocation, will not be picked up.
- Check the allocation method on the item or the MO material line. Manual, automatic at release and automatic at order entry behave differently.
- Check the issuing warehouse on the material line. A common cause is the MO pulling from a warehouse where the stock is not held.
- Check whether another order has allocated the stock first. Look at the allocations for the item and compare priority and dates.
- Fix the cause (receive, change status, correct warehouse, release a competing allocation), then re-run the allocation for the MO.

### What MWOMAT and MITALO tell you

**Body:**

The MO header is in MWOHED and the component lines in MWOMAT. Each line carries the required quantity, the issued quantity and the allocated quantity. Allocations themselves are held in MITALO, one row per allocation against a balance. If MWOMAT says allocated is zero and MITALO has no rows for the order, nothing tried to allocate, or it tried and found nothing allocatable.

If MITALO has rows but they are for a different warehouse or a different balance ID than you expected, the stock is allocated somewhere you do not want. That points to a warehouse or location setup issue, not a stock shortage.

**Code:**

-- Read-only diagnostic, reporting copy
SELECT m.VMCONO, m.VMWHLO, m.VMMTNO AS component, m.VMREQT AS required,
       m.VMRPQT AS issued
FROM MWOMAT m
WHERE m.VMMFNO = '0000012345'
ORDER BY m.VMMSEQ;

### Why stock exists but is not allocatable

**Body:**

The balance ID status is the first thing to check. Stock in a quarantine, inspection or blocked status is on-hand but not allocatable. This is by design and common after goods receipt when quality inspection is on.

Next is lot and expiry. If the component is lot controlled and the MO or item requires a specific lot or a minimum remaining shelf life, valid stock can be excluded. Reservation rules can also hold stock for a customer order, so the MO sees allocatable as zero even though on-hand is positive.

### Timing: required date and planning

**Body:**

Allocation looks at the required date. If the stock is expected on a later purchase order or MO, the component is short until that supply is received, even though the plan looks fine. Check the supply and demand picture for the item: planned purchase orders, confirmed receipts and the dates against the MO start.

If MRP keeps suggesting shortages that do not reflect reality, check the planning parameters on the item-warehouse, such as lead times and safety stock. The M3 planning results will show which demand is consuming the supply.

## Pitfalls

- Forcing a manual allocation to a balance ID that is on hold, which then fails at issue time.
- Releasing the MO before checking component availability, so the shop floor finds out at the line.
- Checking only item-level on-hand and not the warehouse on the material line.
- Not noticing that a customer order reservation has consumed the allocatable quantity.
- Treating every shortage as a purchasing problem when it is a status or warehouse setting.

## Ai Angle

Grounded in M3 order and balance data, an assistant such as ERPray can answer which components on this MO are short, why each one is short (on hold, wrong warehouse, competing allocation or not yet received), and show the query. It reports and suggests; allocation changes and releases stay with the planner in M3.

## Faq

### Why does the MO show allocated zero when stock is on hand?

**Answer:** Usually the stock is not allocatable: balance ID status, quarantine, lot restriction or a customer order reservation. It can also be in a different warehouse than the material line. Check the item-warehouse balance and the balance IDs before changing anything.

### Can I allocate manually to override it?

**Answer:** You can allocate manually where the method and authority allow it, but only to stock that is genuinely usable. Allocating to held stock tends to fail at issue. Fix the status or the warehouse first.

### What is the difference between MWOMAT and MITALO?

**Answer:** MWOMAT holds the MO component lines and their required, allocated and issued quantities. MITALO holds the allocation records against inventory balances. Reading both shows whether an allocation was attempted and where it landed.

### Should I release the MO with short components?

**Answer:** It depends on your process. Releasing with shortages creates pick lists that cannot be completed and can tie up other stock. Many sites require full availability or an explicit supervisor decision before release.
