## Content

**Intro:** Estimating ABAP work from object counts is the quickest way to size a project before every spec is written. This calculator makes the assumptions visible so you can challenge and tune them.

**Sections:**

#### How to use the calculator

**Body:** Enter how many simple, medium and complex objects you expect, then set the build hours for each class from your own history. Set technical design, test and contingency as percentages of build. The result gives total hours, developer days and weeks. Use the chart to see how sensitive the total is to test share, which is often the assumption that is most underestimated.

**Bullets:**

- Use actual hours from past projects
- Count objects from the fit-gap list
- Set test share honestly
- Convert to calendar time with team size

#### The method

**Body:** Build equals each count times its hours. Technical design and test are added as shares of build. Contingency is applied to the subtotal. Days are total hours divided by productive hours per day, which should be lower than the working day to allow for meetings, support and environment issues. This is a top-down estimate: it is useful early, and should be replaced by bottom-up estimates once specifications exist.

#### Reading the result

**Body:** Treat the result as a range, not a point. Early in a project, accuracy can be wide. Compare it with the number of developers and the calendar: eight hundred hours with two developers is not the same as with six, because dependencies and review time do not shrink linearly. Check that the share of complex objects looks plausible, as a few interfaces can dominate the plan.

**Bullets:**

- Ranges beat single numbers
- Complex objects dominate risk
- Add time for code review and transports
- Re-estimate once specs are approved

**Cta:** We can discuss where private AI assistance may reduce the build and test hours in your own estimate, and how to measure it fairly.

**Faq:**

#### Are the default hours industry benchmarks?

**Answer:** No. They are placeholders to show how the calculator works. Real values vary widely by team skill, code quality, spec quality and system landscape. Use your own history wherever you can.

#### Why is the test share so high?

**Answer:** Test and defect fixing often take a large share of effort on ABAP work, especially for interfaces and conversions. Thirty to forty percent of build is a common planning assumption, but set it from your own data.

#### How is contingency different from the test share?

**Answer:** Test share is planned work. Contingency covers uncertainty: unclear specs, environment delays and rework. Keep them separate so each can be reviewed on its own.

#### Can I use this for a fixed price quote?

**Answer:** Only with care. Replace defaults with evidence, estimate bottom-up from approved specifications, and add commercial risk. Use this tool for early sizing and for checking a more detailed estimate.
