## Content

**Intro:** This worksheet costs additive and powder metallurgy jobs the way an estimator builds a quote: machine hours, material, post-process labor and outside processing, rolled into a job total and a cost per part. Edit the example rows, add your own, and export to Excel.

**Sections:**

#### How to use it

**Body:** Add one row per job or part. Enter quantity and the whole-job inputs: machine hours, the burdened machine rate, material consumed in kilograms and its price, post-process labor hours and rate, and any outside processing such as HIP or heat treat. Machine, material, post-process and job-total columns calculate on each row, and cost per part divides by quantity. The summary shows the cost mix across all jobs, so you can see where the money goes.

**Bullets:**

- Use job-level hours and kilograms, then let the sheet divide by quantity.
- Include supports and non-recycled powder in material consumed.
- Put sent-out heat treat, HIP, NDT and plating in outside processing.

#### The costing method

**Body:** Machine cost = machine hours x rate. Material cost = kilograms consumed x price per kilogram. Post-process cost = labor hours x labor rate + outside processing. Job total is the sum of the three, and cost per part is job total divided by quantity. The cost-mix summary divides each category by the grand total. This direct-cost structure maps cleanly onto a standard cost rollup, where machine hours become a routing operation and material becomes a bill of materials line.

#### Using the cost mix

**Body:** A high machine share points to nesting and build-rate improvements. A high material share points to alloy choice, powder reuse and support minimization. A high post-process share, common for thin, small or tight-tolerance parts, points to design for post-processing: fewer supports, machining stock only where needed, and batching heat treat. Compare the mix between processes. Press-and-sinter and MIM jobs carry low per-part post-process but need tooling, which this sheet does not amortize.

#### Common mistakes

**Body:** Entering per-part values in job-level columns inflates or deflates cost by the quantity. Forgetting scrap is another: apply a yield factor by adding hours and material for reprints. Tooling for MIM and PM is a separate one-time cost that should be added to the outside column or quoted as non-recurring engineering. Finally, use rates from the same period; machine rates drift with utilization, so update them quarterly.

**Cta:** If these costs should come from live job data rather than a spreadsheet, we can map machine hours and material lots into your ERP job costing.

**Faq:**

#### How do I handle scrap or failed builds?

**Answer:** Estimate your first-pass yield and add the extra machine hours and material for the failed share to the job, or divide the job total by yield. Track actual failures to refine the assumption over time.

#### Can I use it for MIM and press-and-sinter?

**Answer:** Yes, choose the process and enter furnace or press hours, powder or feedstock kilograms and post-process labor. Add tooling as a one-time cost in outside processing or as a separate line, since it is not recurring per job.

#### What machine rate should I enter?

**Answer:** Divide annual machine cost (depreciation, service, gas, filters, floor space and operator share) by realistic available hours. Use actual utilized hours, not 8,760, or the rate will be too low.

#### How do I export it?

**Answer:** Use the export buttons to download the worksheet as Excel, CSV or PDF. Computed columns export as values, so keep the web version if you want to continue editing with formulas.
