#### Piece price at 12% margin on price

**Key:** price_12

**Expr:** sum_ext / (1 - 0.12)

**Notes:** Margin here is a percentage of price, so price = cost / (1 - margin). Add scrap allowance as a rate on the material line or as a separate row. Customers often want this structure in their own cost breakdown form, so export to Excel and paste the lines across.

## Content

**Intro:** Automotive buyers ask for a piece price cost breakdown with almost every RFQ. This worksheet lets you build the same structure once, see the cost per part and test price at different margins before you submit.

**Sections:**

#### How to build the breakdown

**Body:** Enter one row for each cost element: material, purchased components, direct labor, machine burden, outside processes, packaging, logistics, scrap allowance and tooling amortization. For each row give the quantity per part and the rate per unit, and the worksheet multiplies them. The total shows the cost per part and the summary lines show the piece price at two margin levels.

#### Margin versus markup

**Body:** Margin on price and markup on cost are different numbers. A cost of 1.00 with 8 percent margin on price gives a price of 1.087, whereas 8 percent markup gives 1.08. Customers usually read a quoted profit as a percentage of price, so the worksheet uses cost divided by one minus margin. State which basis you use when you submit.

**Bullets:**

- Use gross yield, not net, for the material quantity
- Convert cycle time to hours per part before pricing machine burden
- Spread tooling over the contracted volume, not the optimistic volume
- Add scrap and rework allowance explicitly rather than burying it

#### Sanity checks before sending

**Body:** Compare material as a share of total cost with your last similar job. Check that labor and burden hours per part match the routing in your ERP. Confirm that volume, annual price-down expectations and any raw material index clauses are reflected. A quote that wins by missing a cost line becomes a loss for the life of the program.

#### ERP notes

**Body:** Standard costs in your ERP routings and BOMs should agree with the breakdown. Large gaps mean either the quote is optimistic or the standards are stale. Export this sheet and keep it with the contract so that later price discussions refer to the same assumptions.

**Cta:** If your BOM and routing data already sit in the ERP, Netray can generate a draft cost breakdown from them for review. This worksheet works standalone either way.

**Faq:**

#### Is margin on price or on cost?

**Answer:** This sheet uses margin on price, so price equals cost divided by one minus the margin. That matches how most customers and finance teams read a margin percentage. Say which basis you use in your quote to avoid confusion.

#### How should tooling be handled?

**Answer:** Either amortize tooling into the piece price using contracted volume, or bill it separately as a tooling purchase order. Do not do both. The amortization row here handles the first option.

#### Can I add my own cost groups?

**Answer:** Yes. Edit the group and element fields, add rows as needed and export the final sheet to Excel. The totals update as you edit the quantity and rate.

#### Does this replace the customer's own cost form?

**Answer:** No. Many OEMs issue their own breakdown format. Use this worksheet to build and check the numbers, then transfer the lines into the customer's form.
