**Notes:** Starting point for a casting RFQ, not legal advice. Add your standard terms and conditions, and attach the drawing, 3D model, specification and quality clauses as separate files. Tolerance grade names refer to ISO 8062 casting tolerance classes; confirm what your drawing actually requires.

## Content

**Intro:** A vague casting RFQ gets vague quotes. This template collects the part definition, alloy, process, tolerances, quantities, inspection requirements and tooling terms in one place so that foundries can price the same thing and you can compare answers.

**Sections:**

#### How to use the template

**Body:** Fill in the fields, then export a PDF or Word file and attach the drawing and 3D model. Name the specification for the alloy, not just a family, and give a weight so the foundry can check yield. State the casting tolerance standard you intend, such as an ISO 8062 grade, so that dimensions are priced consistently. Give both prototype and annual volumes, because pattern investment and process choice depend on them. Ask for tooling to be quoted both ways when you are open to supplier owned tooling.

#### What makes a casting RFQ comparable

**Body:** Foundries quote differently on process, yield, tooling life and finishing. A fair comparison needs the same alloy, tolerance, machining stock, inspection scope, and delivery basis in every request. The price response table forces quantity breaks and a separate tooling charge, which prevents hidden tooling in the piece price. Ask for lead time on tooling and on production, and for the foundry's own cost reduction suggestions, such as changes to wall thickness or parting line that raise yield.

**Bullets:**

- Alloy specification, not just family
- Tolerance standard and machining stock stated
- Quantity breaks with separate tooling charge
- Inspection, certification and traceability scope

#### Common mistakes

**Body:** Leaving out the revision level leads to quotes on old drawings. Not stating who owns the tooling creates disputes later. Omitting inspection requirements such as pressure testing or radiography gets you a price that excludes them. Sending the RFQ to many foundries without checking process fit wastes everyone's time; match investment, sand and die casting suppliers to the part. Finally, include the expected first shipment date, because pattern lead time is often the true constraint.

**Cta:** If you want RFQs, supplier quotes and tooling records kept together and compared inside your ERP, we can build that on your own servers.

**Faq:**

#### What drawings should accompany a casting RFQ?

**Answer:** Send the part drawing with revision, a 3D model if available, the material specification, any inspection or test requirements and applicable quality clauses. Mark machined surfaces and datums, because they affect gating, machining stock and tolerance planning.

#### Should I specify the casting process?

**Answer:** State a preference if function, volume or tolerance requires it, but also ask the foundry to recommend an alternative. A different process, such as shell mold instead of green sand, sometimes improves quality or cost for the same part.

#### Who should own the tooling?

**Answer:** It depends on volume, your control needs and the foundry's policy. Buyer owned tooling gives you portability, while supplier owned tooling can reduce upfront spend. Ask for both quotes and compare total cost over the expected volume.

#### What quantity breaks should I ask for?

**Answer:** Ask for prototype, low production and full annual volume breaks, plus a price for the tooling. Foundries often change process and yield with volume, so a single price at one quantity hides the real cost curve.
