**Summary:**

#### Gap to 100 percent

**Key:** gap

**Expr:** 100 - sum_pct

**Format:** decimal

**Description:** Should be zero. A positive gap means the formula is short.

**Primary:** true

#### Raw material cost per tonne

**Key:** per_t

**Expr:** sum_cost_t

**Notes:** Raw material cost only. Add yield loss, packaging, labor, overhead and freight for a full standard cost. Use prices per kg on the same basis (as-received versus 100 percent active).

## Content

**Intro:** Formulators and cost accountants need to know what a kilogram of product costs in raw materials, and what happens when one ingredient price moves. This worksheet multiplies each ingredient's weight percent by its price per kg and totals the result.

**Sections:**

#### How to use the worksheet

**Body:** List each ingredient with its weight percent in the finished product and its current price per kg. Per-row cost per kg and per tonne are computed automatically, and the totals give raw material cost for the formula. The gap line checks that the formula adds to 100 percent. Change a price to test sensitivity, add a row for a trial substitute, and export the table to Excel for further analysis or to PDF for a costing sign-off.

**Bullets:**

- Use the same price basis for every row.
- Keep the formula at exactly 100 percent.
- Update prices from purchase orders, not catalog lists.

#### The costing method

**Body:** Formula cost per kg equals the sum of weight fraction times price per kg across ingredients. In the example, titanium dioxide at 18 percent and 3.40 per kg contributes 0.612 per kg, which is far more than water at 38 percent contributes. That is why a few expensive ingredients dominate cost and deserve most of the attention in a cost-down project. Per tonne cost is the per kg figure times 1000.

#### Mistakes and next steps

**Body:** Frequent errors: mixing volume percent with weight percent, using the price of a 50 percent solution as if it were 100 percent active, forgetting that process loss raises the effective cost per kg of saleable product, and ignoring freight and duty on imported inputs. For a standard cost, divide raw material cost by the expected yield and add conversion cost. Compare the result with the cost rolled up in your ERP to catch stale prices.

**Bullets:**

- Divide by yield to get cost per saleable kg.
- Review prices on a fixed cycle.
- Compare with ERP standard cost each quarter.

**Cta:** If your ERP standard cost does not match what purchasing actually pays, Netray can help build a read-only comparison of formula cost against current purchase prices.

**Faq:**

#### How do I calculate the cost of a chemical formulation?

**Answer:** Multiply each ingredient's weight fraction by its price per kg and add the results. A 10 percent ingredient priced at 5 per kg contributes 0.50 per kg of finished product. This worksheet performs that for every row and totals the formula.

#### Does this include yield loss?

**Answer:** No. It gives raw material cost per kg of formula. To get cost per saleable kg, divide by your expected yield, for example 0.98, and then add packaging, labor and overhead as your costing policy requires.

#### What if my formula is in volume percent?

**Answer:** Convert to weight percent first using each ingredient density, or price each ingredient per litre and total by volume. Mixing weight and volume bases in one table gives meaningless totals.

#### How do I handle active content?

**Answer:** Price on an as-received basis if you charge as received, or convert to price per kg of active and enter the active percent. Be consistent. For example, a 50 percent solution at 2 per kg costs 4 per kg of active.
