**Notes:** Hazard categories above are a simplified grouping for tracking. Use the classifications on each manufacturer's SDS (GHS sections 2 and 9) for formal records. Replace example products with your real inventory. Keep SDSs readily accessible to employees on every shift.

## Content

**Intro:** Hazard communication starts with knowing what chemicals you have and where they are. This worksheet gives you a simple inventory that links each product to its location, quantity and safety data sheet.

**Sections:**

#### How to use the worksheet

**Body:** Walk each area and list every product, including cleaners, lubricants, adhesives, gases and maintenance chemicals. Enter the supplier, storage location, hazard group and how many containers of what size you hold, then record the SDS revision date and where the SDS is kept. Mark 1 or 0 for labels. The sheet computes volume per row and total volume, and the percentage of products with good labels. Review quarterly, remove products you no longer use and add new ones before they enter the building.

#### What the HazCom standard requires

**Body:** 29 CFR 1910.1200 requires a written hazard communication program that includes a list of hazardous chemicals, labels on containers, a safety data sheet for each chemical available to employees in their work area during each shift, and employee training. The SDS must follow the 16-section GHS format. The chemical list may be compiled for the whole workplace or by work area, and it should use the product identifier that matches the SDS and label. Update the list when new hazards are introduced.

**Bullets:**

- Keep a current list of hazardous chemicals
- One SDS per product, accessible each shift
- Labels on all containers, including secondary ones
- Train employees on hazards and protective measures

#### Common mistakes

**Body:** Frequent gaps are SDSs missing for products brought in by maintenance or contractors, old SDSs that predate the 2012 GHS alignment, decanted spray bottles without labels, and inventories that list names that do not match what is on the drum. Also review quantities against storage limits for flammables and incompatible storage, such as acids next to bases. Where an inventory is used for environmental reporting, check thresholds for the threshold planning quantities in your jurisdiction.

**Cta:** If you want chemical purchases in your ERP to trigger SDS and inventory updates automatically, Netray can discuss how.

**Faq:**

#### Do I need an SDS for every product?

**Answer:** You need one for each hazardous chemical in the workplace. Consumer products used as intended in the same way and amount as a consumer may be exempt. When in doubt, request the SDS from the supplier.

#### How old can an SDS be?

**Answer:** There is no fixed expiry, but you should replace it when the manufacturer issues a revision or when the format predates GHS alignment. Many sites review SDSs every three years.

#### Can SDSs be kept electronically?

**Answer:** Yes, provided employees can access them immediately during every shift without barriers, and a backup is available if the system is down.

#### Is this inventory the same as a Tier II report?

**Answer:** No. Tier II reporting under EPCRA uses specific thresholds and forms. You can use this list as a starting point, but compile the Tier II data against the official requirements.
