## Content

**Intro:** Early in a D365 Finance and Supply Chain project, someone always asks for a rough number. This estimator builds a transparent rough-order estimate from the drivers that actually move effort, so you can discuss assumptions instead of guessing.

**Sections:**

#### How to use the estimator

**Body:** Enter the number of modules, legal entities, integrations, extensions, migration objects, custom reports and users. Adjust the blended rate to your partner or internal cost. The tool returns hours by phase and a total, with testing at a quarter of build-type effort and project management at fifteen percent of the rest. The chart shows how total hours grow as the number of extensions rises.

**Bullets:**

- Count extensions from your fit-gap register
- Count every integration, including bank and EDI files
- Use real migration object counts
- Treat the output as a range, not a quote

#### The logic behind the numbers

**Body:** Configuration scales with modules and each extra legal entity; build scales with integrations, extensions and reports; data migration scales with objects; training scales with users; testing and management are percentages of the rest. The coefficients are deliberately simple so you can change them in your head. Replace them with your own partner's historical data when you have it.

#### Reading the result

**Body:** Look at which phase dominates. If build hours dominate, push on the fit-gap: reducing extensions has the biggest effect on both cost and upgrade burden. If data migration dominates, review the scope of history and consider cleansing before migration. Add contingency on top, commonly a range rather than a fixed percentage, based on how well scope is understood.

#### Common mistakes

**Body:** Estimates often omit internal business time, licenses, environments, third-party solutions, hypercare and post-go-live support. They also assume ideal data and stable scope. Use this tool to frame the conversation, then replace it with a bottom-up estimate once the fit-gap and design workshops are done.

**Cta:** If you want an independent view of your D365 estimate or fit-gap, Netray and its ERP partners can review the assumptions with you.

**Faq:**

#### How accurate is this estimate?

**Answer:** It is a rough order of magnitude based on simple coefficients, useful for early budgeting and for comparing scenarios. It is not a quotation, and real projects can differ widely depending on complexity, data quality and scope control.

#### Does it include licenses?

**Answer:** No. It covers implementation services effort only. License costs, infrastructure, environments, third-party solutions and your own staff time must be added separately from your Microsoft agreement and internal plans.

#### What does one extension equal?

**Answer:** The default of 55 hours includes design, development, code review, unit test and deployment of a small to medium extension. Complex extensions can take many times longer, so split the count by size if needed.

#### How do I reduce the estimate?

**Answer:** Reduce extensions by adopting standard processes, limit migration to what the business will use, reuse standard data entities, and avoid adding legal entities or modules in the first phase. Scope control is the largest lever.
