**Summary:**

#### Pass rate

**Key:** pass_rate

**Expr:** sum_pass / count * 100

**Format:** percent

**Primary:** true

**Description:** Share of measured dimensions within tolerance

**Notes:** Enter tolerance minus as a positive number. A bore of 12.700 +0.025 / -0.000 has tol plus 0.025 and tol minus 0. Keep the same decimal places as the drawing and the gage resolution allows.

## Content

**Intro:** This worksheet replaces the ad hoc inspection spreadsheet most shops keep. Type the nominal, tolerances and measured value, and it works out the deviation and whether each dimension is in tolerance, then exports to Excel.

**Sections:**

#### How to use the worksheet

**Body:** Add one row per characteristic from the drawing balloon list. Choose the gage actually used, enter nominal and the plus and minus tolerance, then type the measured value. The deviation column shows measured minus nominal, and the pass column returns 1 when the value falls between nominal minus tol minus and nominal plus tol plus. Use the add row button for more dimensions, then export to Excel and attach the file to the inspection record or lot traveler.

#### The pass or fail logic

**Body:** A dimension passes when the measured value is greater than or equal to the lower limit and less than or equal to the upper limit. For a bilateral tolerance of 19.05 +/- 0.013, limits are 19.037 and 19.063. For a unilateral tolerance like 12.700 +0.025 / -0.000, the lower limit is 12.700 and the upper limit is 12.725. The worksheet does exactly this arithmetic so there is no mental subtraction at the bench.

**Bullets:**

- Row 2 above measures 12.742 so it fails by 0.017 mm
- Row 3 measures 19.058 and passes inside +0.013
- Deviation near a limit is a warning even when it passes

#### Reading the result

**Body:** The pass rate summary tells you how many dimensions are in tolerance, but any single failing row means the part or lot is nonconforming. Look at deviation sign across rows. Consistently positive deviations hint at a tool offset or wear, while scattered signs suggest measurement noise. Do not round measurements to make them pass, and make sure your gage resolution is fine enough, commonly ten times finer than the tolerance band.

#### Common mistakes

**Body:** Entering the minus tolerance as a negative number reverses the lower limit and gives false passes. Mixing inches and millimeters in one sheet is another frequent error, so state the unit in the notes. Do not use this worksheet for geometric tolerances that need datum references and bonus tolerance calculations unless you convert them to a measured value and limit. For statistical studies use a dedicated SPC tool.

**Cta:** If inspection results are re-keyed from spreadsheets into your ERP quality module, Netray can help capture them once and feed lot disposition and supplier scorecards.

**Faq:**

#### How do I enter a unilateral tolerance?

**Answer:** Put the larger side in tol plus or tol minus and zero on the other side. For 12.700 +0.025 / -0.000, enter nominal 12.7, tol plus 0.025 and tol minus 0. Always enter the minus value as a positive number.

#### Can I measure more than one piece per characteristic?

**Answer:** Yes. Add a row per piece and put the piece number in the feature name, for example Bore, piece 1. The pass rate then reflects all measurements. For statistical sampling plans, use a separate lot acceptance log.

#### Does it handle GD&T callouts?

**Answer:** Not directly. For position, flatness and similar controls, enter the measured value as the nominal 0 with the zone as tol plus and use the actual reading, or record the CMM result in a text field. Bonus tolerance needs a dedicated calculation.

#### What gage resolution should I use?

**Answer:** A common rule is that gage resolution should be about one tenth of the tolerance band or better. A 0.05 mm band calls for 0.005 mm resolution. Your quality system or customer may set a stricter requirement.
