#### Receipt from date

**Key:** from_date

**Type:** date

**Default:** 2026-01-01

**Blocks:**

#### 1. Forward trace: which serials contain the suspect lot

**Body:** SELECT DISTINCT o.{{serial_col}}, i.{{wo_col}}, i.{{part_col}}, i.{{lot_col}}
FROM {{issue_table}} i
JOIN {{wo_table}} o ON o.{{wo_col}} = i.{{wo_col}}
WHERE i.{{part_col}} = '{{part_no}}'
  AND i.{{lot_col}} = '{{lot_no}}'
ORDER BY i.{{wo_col}}, o.{{serial_col}};

#### 2. Backward trace: which lots went into one serial

**Body:** SELECT i.{{part_col}}, i.{{lot_col}}, i.{{wo_col}}
FROM {{wo_table}} o
JOIN {{issue_table}} i ON i.{{wo_col}} = o.{{wo_col}}
WHERE o.{{serial_col}} = 'SN-000123'
ORDER BY i.{{part_col}}, i.{{lot_col}};

#### 3. Remaining stock of the suspect lot (quarantine scope)

**Body:** SELECT r.{{part_col}}, r.{{lot_col}}
FROM {{lot_table}} r
WHERE r.{{part_col}} = '{{part_no}}'
  AND r.{{lot_col}} = '{{lot_no}}';

#### 4. Other lots of the same part received since a date

**Body:** SELECT r.{{part_col}}, r.{{lot_col}}
FROM {{lot_table}} r
WHERE r.{{part_col}} = '{{part_no}}'
  AND r.{{lot_col}} <> '{{lot_no}}'
  AND r.receipt_date >= '{{from_date}}'
ORDER BY r.receipt_date;

**Notes:** Table and column names above are generic placeholders. Map them to your ERP schema (for example, lot, transaction and job material tables) and verify joins in a test database first. Add your site or company filters, and review quarantined results against the physical stock. Use read-only credentials.

## Content

**Intro:** When a supplier reports a suspect lot or a counterfeit alert, you need a fast answer: which serial numbers contain it, and how much is still on the shelf. This generator writes the standard forward and backward trace SQL from your own table and column names.

**Sections:**

#### How to use the generator

**Body:** Enter the names of your receipt, issue and output tables and the matching column names. Then type the part number and the suspect lot or date code. The code blocks update as you type, and you can copy or export them. Run them against a reporting copy of your ERP database first. The queries are plain SQL with joins and simple filters, so they work on SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL and MySQL, though date literal syntax can vary and you may need a cast.

#### Forward and backward trace

**Body:** Forward trace starts at a component lot and finds every work order and serial that consumed it. Backward trace starts at a finished serial and lists every component lot that went in. Together they define the recall or containment scope. In defense electronics, customers often require the answer in hours, and AS9100 asks for traceability where it is a requirement. The third and fourth queries support quarantine by showing remaining stock and sibling lots.

**Bullets:**

- Forward: lot to serials
- Backward: serial to lots
- Quarantine: remaining stock of the lot
- Sibling lots from the same supplier or period

#### Data quality caveats

**Body:** A trace is only as good as the issue records. If operators issue material to a work order in bulk rather than by lot, or if kitting merges lots on a reel, the join may overstate scope. Check how your ERP records lot splits, returns to stock and substitutions. Also keep a stable key for parts with multiple revisions or date codes in the same lot field. Test the query with a known good example serial to confirm the answer matches the physical build record.

**Cta:** Netray can run questions like these in plain English over your ERP data, read-only and on-prem. We can discuss it if lot traceability queries are a regular request.

**Faq:**

#### Will these queries work on my ERP?

**Answer:** They work wherever you can map the three tables and columns. Most ERPs spread this across several tables, so you may need extra joins. Treat the output as a starting point and verify it against a build record you already know.

#### Is this safe to run in production?

**Answer:** The queries only read data, but joins on large transaction tables can be slow. Run them on a reporting replica or during a quiet period, use read-only credentials and add date filters if your tables are very large.

#### Why trace by date code and lot?

**Answer:** Component makers assign date codes and lot codes to production batches. When a counterfeit or quality alert names a batch, matching on that code identifies the exposed builds. Capture both codes at receiving if your ERP allows it.

#### Can I use this for recall notices?

**Answer:** It helps define scope quickly, but a recall or customer notification also needs shipment records, contracts and legal review. Use the SQL output as input to that process rather than the final word.
