## Content

**Intro:** ISO 14001 expects you to know which legal and other requirements apply to your site, who owns them and how you check compliance. This register keeps permits, laws and customer demands in one place with a due date for each.

**Sections:**

#### How to use the register

**Body:** Start with the permits on the wall: air, water, waste, stormwater, chemical storage and any local operating licences. Add national and local laws that your aspects register points to, then customer and voluntary requirements such as supplier codes, RoHS or REACH declarations, and commitments in your sustainability report. For each, name one owner, set the frequency, and enter the next due date. Change the status after each evaluation of compliance.

**Bullets:**

- Use the permit condition number as the reference
- Record the evidence location, such as a file or system record
- Separate event driven items like spill notifications
- Review the register after any permit renewal or regulatory change

#### Why owners and dates matter

**Body:** Most missed environmental obligations are not unknown, they are forgotten. A report due on the first of March has no owner when the person who filed it last year has left. Naming an owner and a date turns the register into a calendar. Export it to Excel or CSV and load the dates into your calendar or maintenance system so reminders fire before the deadline.

#### Evaluating compliance

**Body:** Clause 9.1.2 of ISO 14001 requires you to evaluate compliance at planned intervals and keep results. Use the status column for the outcome and add an action in your corrective action system for anything not compliant. Management review should see the count of open and overdue items and any trend over time.

#### Common mistakes

**Body:** Teams often list only laws and forget the permit conditions themselves, which are usually more specific. Others write requirements in legal language no one can act on. Translate each into a plain action, and keep a separate row for each distinct deadline.

**Cta:** If obligations are scattered across email and shared drives, we can help build a register that links to ERP purchasing, waste and inventory records.

**Faq:**

#### What counts as an 'other requirement'?

**Answer:** Anything you must or choose to comply with that is not a law: customer contract clauses, supplier codes of conduct, industry agreements, community commitments and voluntary standards you have signed up to. If you have adopted it, it belongs in the register.

#### How often should compliance be evaluated?

**Answer:** ISO 14001 leaves the frequency to you, based on the risk and the regulatory cycle. Monthly or quarterly checks suit high risk obligations such as discharge limits, while annual checks may be enough for low risk items. Record the date and result each time.

#### Does this replace a legal register service?

**Answer:** No. Many sites subscribe to a legal update service or rely on counsel to know what changed. This worksheet records what applies to you and who acts on it. Use both together for strong control.

#### Can I track multiple sites?

**Answer:** Yes. Add a site prefix to the obligation name or export the worksheet separately for each site. For group reporting, combine the exports into one table with a site column.
