#### Developing

**Recommendations:**

- Keep reviews on a calendar
- Measure upgrade effort and refine the regression pack
- Look at automation for routine reporting and reconciliation

## Content

**Intro:** Most Epicor problems that reach the help desk are really administration problems: access nobody reviews, customizations nobody documented and a backup nobody has restored. This ten-question assessment gives a quick, honest view.

**Sections:**

#### How to use the assessment

**Body:** Answer for how things are today, not how they are meant to be. Ideally two people answer independently, for example the administrator and the IT manager, and compare. Differences between the answers are often more useful than the score. Export the result and use the lowest scoring questions as the first items in next quarter's plan.

#### What the scoring means

**Body:** Each question scores zero to ten and the total is converted to a percentage of the maximum. The bands are a conversation starter, not a certification. A system can score well and still have a single point of failure in one person, which is why the last question matters. A low score is not a failure either, it shows where a small amount of effort gives the largest reduction in risk.

**Bullets:**

- Backup restore testing is the cheapest big win
- Role-based security prevents audit findings
- Documented customizations make upgrades far less painful

#### Common mistakes

**Body:** Teams often mark themselves up because backups run, without ever restoring. They count shared admin accounts as normal. They also treat customizations as someone else's problem until an upgrade breaks them. Be critical, since the point is to find gaps while they are cheap to fix. Repeat the assessment every six to twelve months to show progress.

**Cta:** If you want an outside view, Netray can review your environment and suggest where read-only AI assistants could remove routine reporting work.

**Faq:**

#### Is this assessment official from Epicor?

**Answer:** No. It is an independent self-assessment based on common administration practices. It does not certify anything and is not endorsed by Epicor.

#### How often should we repeat it?

**Answer:** Every six to twelve months, and after a major upgrade, staffing change or incident. Keep the exports so you can show trend over time to management or auditors.

#### What if we are cloud hosted?

**Answer:** Hosting changes who runs servers and backups, but you still own security groups, customizations, BAQs, integrations and procedures. Answer the infrastructure questions according to what you can verify with your provider.

#### Which question matters most?

**Answer:** If forced to choose, the backup restore test and the number of trained administrators. They determine whether you can recover and whether the system survives a staffing change.
