## Content

**Intro:** The first discount in an ERP proposal is rarely the last. Before you negotiate, it helps to know what each percentage point of subscription and services discount is worth over the term you are committing to. This calculator converts your ask into a single number you can put on the table and weigh against other trade-offs.

**Sections:**

#### How to use it

**Body:** Enter the list price of the annual subscription from the quote, the discount the vendor has offered, and the discount you want. Add the implementation services at rate card with their current and target discounts. The result shows the annual gap, the saving across the term, and the services saving. Use the chart to see how each extra point of discount scales, which helps decide where to push and where to concede.

#### The arithmetic

**Body:** Net subscription is list x (1 - discount). The annual gap is the difference between net at the offer and net at the target, and the term saving is the annual gap times the number of years. Services saving is list services x the difference in discount percent. Blended discount weights the two by list value, with the subscription counted over the term, so you can compare against a single headline number in the vendor's summary.

#### Worked example

**Body:** A 300,000 list subscription moving from 20 to 35 percent discount saves 45,000 a year, or 225,000 over five years. Moving 400,000 of services from 5 to 15 percent saves 40,000. The total is 265,000. If the vendor offers a smaller discount but a flat price hold for the whole term, compare the two results with the escalator calculator rather than relying on the headline percentage.

**Bullets:**

- Discount on the first year only is not a term discount
- Check that the discount applies to added users and modules
- Ask for the discount in the order form, not an email

#### What to trade

**Body:** Vendors usually trade discount for term length, early signature, a reference commitment or a larger initial scope. Decide in advance which of these you can offer cheaply. A longer term raises your exit cost, so pair it with termination rights and a price cap. Pushing hard on the services rate is also worth it, because services are often the least benchmarked line in the quote.

**Cta:** If you want a second pair of eyes on a quote or a negotiation plan, our team can help you structure it. The calculator itself is free and complete as it stands.

**Faq:**

#### What discount should I ask for on ERP software?

**Answer:** There is no single correct figure. It depends on vendor, product, deal size, timing and competition. Use competing quotes and your own walk-away number, then use this calculator to see what the gap is worth.

#### Is it better to push on subscription or services?

**Answer:** Subscription recurs every year, so a point there is usually worth more than a point on a one-time services fee. But services rates are often less negotiated, so both are worth testing.

#### Does a bigger discount always win?

**Answer:** No. A high discount with a large uplift clause, short price hold or restrictive terms can cost more over the term. Compare total cost, not the headline percentage.

#### Should I tell the vendor my target?

**Answer:** That is a negotiation judgment. Many teams share a target total price rather than a percentage, and anchor on competing proposals and what they are willing to commit to.
