## Content

**Intro:** This calculator builds a pack-level cost from the cell price, the non-cell content, labor, scrap and overhead. It is useful for a quick should-cost, a quote sanity check, or testing how sensitive a program is to cell price moves.

**Sections:**

#### How to use it

**Body:** Enter the pack capacity in kWh and the cell cost per kWh from your supplier quote. Add the non-cell content per kWh covering the modules, busbars, battery management system, thermal plate or cooling, housing and harnesses. Set labor hours per pack and a loaded rate, then the scrap and overhead percentages. The result shows the pack cost, the cost per kWh and the price needed to hit your margin. The chart shows how the cost per kWh moves with cell price.

#### The formula

**Body:** Pack cost equals cells plus non-cell material plus a scrap allowance plus labor plus overhead. The scrap allowance applies to material cost. Overhead is applied to material, scrap and labor together, which is a simplification: your plant may apply overhead to labor hours or machine time instead. Price at margin divides cost by one minus the margin, so a ten percent margin means cost is ninety percent of price, not cost plus ten percent.

**Bullets:**

- Cells are typically the largest single cost line
- Non-cell content scales with kWh but also with pack architecture
- Scrap is higher during launch and ramp
- Use delivered cost including freight and duty

#### Common mistakes

**Body:** Mixing cell price per kWh at cell level with pack-level usable kWh overstates or understates cost. Ignoring scrap during ramp, end-of-line testing time and formation or aging, which may sit with the cell maker or the pack plant, creates false confidence. Treat the output as a model to compare scenarios, and store the final figures in your costing system. Currency, tariff and chemistry changes can move cell prices quickly, so rerun it for each quote round.

**Faq:**

#### What is a typical battery pack cost per kWh?

**Answer:** Pack prices vary widely by chemistry, region, volume and year, and published industry surveys show a wide range. Use your own quotes. The calculator defaults are illustrative placeholders, not a market figure.

#### Does it include cell formation and testing?

**Answer:** Not separately. Add end-of-line test time into assembly labor hours or non-cell cost, and treat formation as part of the cell price if the cell supplier does it. If you do formation in-house, add the cost into overhead or labor.

#### How should I treat warranty?

**Answer:** Warranty is not in this model. Use the warranty reserve calculator to estimate the reserve per vehicle or pack, then add it to the price build-up as a separate line.

#### Can I use it for energy storage packs?

**Answer:** Yes. The structure of cells plus non-cell content plus conversion applies to stationary storage packs too. Replace defaults with the quote data for your chemistry and format.
