## Content

**Intro:** Small manufacturers often start production planning in Excel. This worksheet gives you a clean layout: orders, work centers, due dates, planned and actual quantities, with hours, attainment and yield calculated for you. Edit the rows, then export to Excel to share or build on.

**Sections:**

#### How to use the worksheet

**Body:** Add one row per order and work center step. Enter the planned quantity and the standard production rate for that step in units per hour. As production runs, update good and scrap quantities and the status. The sheet calculates planned hours, attainment against plan and yield per row, plus totals and overall percentages. Sort by due date to find what is at risk, and filter by work center to see load.

**Bullets:**

- One row per order and operation.
- Update good and scrap quantities at least once per shift.
- Use status to separate planned, active and finished work.
- Export to Excel for weekly reviews or to add charts.

#### The three numbers it calculates

**Body:** Planned hours show how much capacity an order needs: quantity divided by rate. Add them by work center and compare with available hours to see overload. Attainment is good quantity divided by planned quantity and tells you progress against the plan. Yield is good divided by good plus scrap and shows how much material and time turn into sellable output. A low yield with high attainment means you are hitting quantity by making scrap, which hides cost.

#### Growing beyond a spreadsheet

**Body:** Spreadsheets work well for a handful of orders and one planner. They struggle when several people edit, when materials and BOMs drive the schedule, or when you need history. Signs you are outgrowing Excel include version conflicts, late orders discovered by phone call, no link between inventory and production, and hours spent re-keying shop floor data. At that point an MRP or ERP system, or a scheduling layer on top of your current ERP, pays for itself.

#### Common mistakes

**Body:** Frequent problems are using optimistic standard rates, ignoring setup and changeover time, mixing units per hour with units per shift, and overwriting plan numbers so the original commitment is lost. Keep the original plan in the planned column and track changes elsewhere. Also check that the rate reflects the real bottleneck work center, not the fastest machine in the route.

**Cta:** If your production data already lives in an ERP, Netray can add a private AI layer that answers questions like which orders are late and why, on your own servers, without a separate spreadsheet.

**Faq:**

#### Can I use this as an Excel production template?

**Answer:** Yes. Edit the rows in the browser and export to Excel. The exported file keeps the columns and values, so you can continue in Excel, add your own charts or paste it into an existing workbook. It is free and needs no sign up.

#### How do I calculate production yield?

**Answer:** Yield equals good units divided by total units produced, which is good plus scrap, multiplied by 100. If you made 588 good parts and 12 scrap parts, yield is 98 percent. Track it per order and work center to find where losses occur.

#### What standard rate should I enter?

**Answer:** Use a rate based on time studies or recent actual runs, not the machine's rated speed. Include normal minor stoppages. If setup is significant, add it as a separate row or reduce the effective rate for short runs so planned hours are realistic.

#### How is this different from a production schedule?

**Answer:** This worksheet tracks quantity, hours and yield by order. A production schedule sequences orders across machines and days. Use this to measure progress, and pair it with a schedule or master production schedule when you need to commit dates.
