#### Formula and Limit

**Body:** Points per 100 sq yd = (total points x 3600) / (length in yards x cuttable width in inches).

Acceptance limit: {{accept_limit}} points per 100 sq yd per roll. Maximum 4 points per linear yard regardless of defects in that yard.

#### Remarks

**Body:** {{remarks}}

#### Sign-off

**Signatures:**

- Inspector
- Quality manager
- Supplier representative

**Notes:** The four-point system is a common industry method, but the acceptance limit comes from your buyer or supplier agreement. Forty points per 100 square yards is a widely used default, not a universal rule.

## Content

**Intro:** The four-point system scores every visible fabric defect from one to four points by size, then converts the total into points per 100 square yards. This template gives inspectors a consistent record and gives the buyer a documented basis for accepting or rejecting a lot.

**Sections:**

#### How to use the report

**Body:** Complete the header, then inspect each roll on an inspection frame with a light source, running the fabric at a steady speed. Record the length, cuttable width and total penalty points for each roll in the exported document. Calculate points per 100 square yards with the printed formula and compare it to the agreed limit. Mark the roll as pass or fail, and note shade, hand feel and width on the remarks block. Sign and send it with the goods receipt.

**Bullets:**

- Inspect rolls on a frame, not on the table
- Use cuttable width, not full width
- Cap penalty at 4 points per linear yard
- Record the result per roll, not only per lot
- File the report against the goods receipt

#### The method behind the score

**Body:** Defects are scored by length for warp or weft direction faults: up to 3 inches is one point, over 3 up to 6 is two, over 6 up to 9 is three, and over 9 is four. Holes are scored by diameter. The total is scaled by roll area to a common 100 square yard basis, which makes rolls of different size comparable. A roll that scores above the limit is graded down or rejected. Large lots are often sampled, with the sample size set in the supply agreement.

#### Mistakes and ERP notes

**Body:** Common errors are using full width rather than cuttable width, forgetting the per-yard cap, and inspecting only the first rolls of a lot. In an ERP, record the result against the goods receipt or the inspection lot, and block the roll or lot if it fails. Keep roll numbers from the supplier packing list, since they link a failed roll to a cutting plan and to a debit note.

**Cta:** If inspection results sit in paper files, we can look at how to feed them into your ERP quality module. Ask us for an expert review.

**Faq:**

#### What is a normal acceptance level for four-point inspection?

**Answer:** Forty points per 100 square yards is a widely used default for a roll, and some buyers use 20 to 30 for premium goods. It is a contract term, so confirm the figure in your purchase agreement or buyer manual before you reject a lot.

#### Why use cuttable width and not full width?

**Answer:** Fabric beyond the usable width cannot be cut into garments, so including it understates the defect density. Cuttable width is the distance between the useful edges, excluding selvedge and any unusable stripes or marks.

#### Do I inspect every roll?

**Answer:** That depends on the agreement. Many mills accept sampling based on lot size, while high-value or problem fabrics are checked at 100%. If a sample fails, a common rule is to inspect the entire lot.

#### How is shade variation handled?

**Answer:** Shade is normally not scored by the four-point system. Check it separately against an approved lab dip or swatch, and record shading between rolls, within a roll and from side to centre in the remarks.
