## Content

**Intro:** A fiber installation is only finished when it has been tested, labelled and accepted by the client. This template produces a handover certificate with the route, limits, per-strand results, installation checks and signatures.

**Sections:**

#### How to use the template

**Body:** Fill in the project, route, cable type, wavelengths and loss limit, then choose the overall result and add comments. The per-strand table is printed blank so technicians can enter results from the tester, or you can export to Word and paste from the tester report. Attach OTDR traces and the light source and power meter results as appendices so the certificate points to the full evidence.

**Bullets:**

- Set the loss limit from the link budget, not from the tester default
- Record the reference method and the test cords used
- Keep one certificate per cable or per link, matching your labelling

#### What a good acceptance record contains

**Body:** Auditors and clients look for traceability: which link, which fibers, tested at which wavelengths, against which limit, with which instrument and calibration. The link loss limit is normally the sum of fiber attenuation times length, connector losses and splice losses, plus margin. Both directions should be tested for OTDR traces, and for loss tests the reference method, such as one-cord or two-cord reference, should be written down because it changes the result.

#### Handling failures

**Body:** When a strand fails, record the measured value and the corrective action, then retest and keep both results. Typical causes are dirty or damaged connector end faces, a poorly made splice, a macrobend from a tight cable tie, or a mismatch between the OTDR group index and the cable. Do not delete the failed result; a documented repair history supports later fault finding and warranty claims.

#### Common mistakes

**Body:** Frequent problems include certificates that omit the test wavelength, limit values copied from another project, trace files named without the fiber number, and unsigned copies. Another is accepting a link on a loss test while ignoring a reflective event on the OTDR trace that will matter at higher speeds. Keep a controlled copy with the as-built drawings and the asset record.

**Cta:** Netray can help connect installation records and test results to assets, work orders and documents in your ERP.

**Faq:**

#### Which wavelengths should I test single-mode fiber at?

**Answer:** Normally 1310 nm and 1550 nm, which expose different problems: 1550 nm is more sensitive to bends. Your specification may add 1625 nm for monitoring or 1383 nm for water peak checks.

#### Do I need both a power meter test and an OTDR?

**Answer:** The loss test with a light source and power meter gives the end-to-end loss that matters for the link budget, and the OTDR locates events and verifies splices. Many specifications require both.

#### How long should I keep these records?

**Answer:** As long as the contract, warranty or your quality system requires, and usually for the life of the cable. Store them with the as-built documentation and link them to the asset record.

#### Can the same template be used for multimode links?

**Answer:** Yes. Change the cable type, wavelengths to 850 nm and 1300 nm and the loss limit. Also record the launch conditions and reference method that the multimode standard calls for.
