**Notes:** Yield here is casting weight divided by metal poured, before scrap. Compare the lowest pour temperature with the misrun rows to see whether cold pours are the cause.

## Content

**Intro:** The pour log connects each mold to a heat, a pattern and a result. It is where yield losses, cold pours and mold problems show up first. This worksheet calculates yield per mold and overall for you.

**Sections:**

#### How to use this worksheet

**Body:** Add one row per mold. Enter the heat number, pattern, pour temperature and time, the total metal poured and the net weight of castings in the mold. Yield calculates per row and in total. Export to Excel or PDF at the end of the shift and file it with the heat records. Keep the mold number identical to the tag or marking on the flask.

#### Casting yield

**Body:** Yield is net casting weight divided by the metal poured, which includes the gating system and risers. Typical yield varies widely by alloy and part geometry, with ductile iron often higher than steel, which needs larger risers. A fall in yield on a given pattern may point to oversized risers added after a defect, or to extra metal in the system. Pour time and temperature records help separate these causes.

#### Reading temperature and time

**Body:** A misrun at the lowest pour temperature in the shift is a classic sign of metal that cooled in the ladle. Very short pour times on thin sections can cause turbulence and sand erosion, while long pour times invite cold laps. Keep records long enough to see patterns by ladle, by operator and by time of day.

#### Common mistakes

**Body:** Do not estimate poured weight when a ladle scale is available. Do not leave the heat number blank when changing ladles. And do not close a mold as Good before shakeout, since defects often appear only when the casting is cleaned.

**Cta:** If you want pour data tied to production orders and lots in your ERP, Netray can help connect them privately on your own servers.

**Faq:**

#### Is yield the same as pour yield?

**Answer:** Here it is casting weight divided by metal poured. Some foundries define yield on tapped metal, which includes ladle skulls and spills. Pick one definition and use it consistently.

#### Can I log several castings per mold?

**Answer:** Yes. Enter the combined casting weight for the mold in one row, and list the patterns in the pattern field, or log one row per pattern if you prefer.

#### How is this different from the heat record?

**Answer:** The heat record covers the melt. The pour log covers the molds. Together they trace a casting from furnace to flask by the heat number.

#### What pour temperatures are typical?

**Answer:** It depends on alloy and section thickness. Ductile iron is often poured in the range of roughly 1350 to 1450 deg C. Use your own process specification as the limit.
