## Content

**Intro:** This calculator reproduces the time fields of an Infor LN 10.x routing operation (Routing Operations, tirou1102m000) and turns them into labor hours, machine hours and cost for an order quantity. Use it to sanity-check routings, compare cycle time against production rate and see how setup spreads over the lot size.

**Sections:**

#### The routing fields behind it

**Body:** In Routing Operations (tirou1102m000) each operation has a setup time and a cycle time in minutes, an optional production rate (used when Use Production Rates is set in the routing parameters; the rate's time unit is also a routing parameter), man occupation for setup, man occupation for production, machine occupation and a fixed duration flag. Machine occupation is only enabled when a machine is defined for the task's work center. With fixed duration, production time equals the cycle time whatever the quantity; otherwise the cycle time is multiplied by the order quantity. Production rate can only be maintained when Use Production Rates is selected.

**Bullets:**

- Production hours = quantity x cycle time / 60, or quantity / rate, or cycle time / 60 if fixed duration
- Machine hours = production hours x machine occupation
- Labor hours = setup hours x man occupation setup + production hours x man occupation production

#### Worked example

**Body:** 500 units at 2.4 minutes per unit is 20 production hours. With one machine that is 20 machine hours, at 80 per hour a machine cost of 1,600. Labor is 1.5 setup hours with one person plus 20 hours with half a person (one operator running two machines), so 11.5 hours, at 45 per hour 517.50. Total 2,117.50, or about 4.24 per unit. At 50 units the setup weighs far more per unit, which the chart shows as the steep left part of the curve.

#### How LN itself costs operations

**Body:** LN's standard cost price calculation uses the operation times together with rates defined on work centers and machines and its own cost components and surcharges, so its result can differ from this simple model (for example if your company also charges machine time during setup, or applies overhead surcharges). Use this tool to understand the drivers and to test routing changes, then compare with the estimated costs shown on a production order or the item cost price breakdown in your system.

#### Common mistakes

**Body:** Entering cycle time per batch instead of per unit inflates time by the batch size. Leaving man occupation for production at 1 for an operation where one operator tends several machines doubles labor. Setting fixed duration on an operation that actually scales with quantity, such as machining, makes large orders look cheap. Production rate and cycle time must agree: a rate of 25 units per hour equals 2.4 minutes per unit.

**Cta:** If you want planners to ask LN about routing times, costs and late operations in plain English on your own servers, we can set that up.

**Faq:**

#### How does Infor LN calculate machine cost on a routing?

**Answer:** LN multiplies operation machine time by the machine or work center rate during cost price calculation, with the cost components and surcharges configured in your company. This calculator models machine hours as production time times machine occupation and applies one rate, which is close for simple setups but not identical to LN's full calculation.

#### What is the difference between man occupation and machine occupation?

**Answer:** Man occupation is the number of persons needed for the operation, separately for setup and for production; fractions mean one person attends several machines. Machine occupation is the number of machines the operation ties up. Labor hours follow man occupation and machine hours follow machine occupation.

#### What does fixed duration mean in LN routing operations?

**Answer:** With fixed duration selected, the production time equals the cycle time regardless of the order quantity, as in an oven cycle that takes the same time for one or a hundred parts. Without it, cycle time is multiplied by the quantity.

#### Where is this described in the Infor LN manufacturing user guide?

**Answer:** The routing chapters of the LN manufacturing documentation on docs.infor.com describe routings, operations and the Routing Operations session (tirou1102m000), including field help for each time and occupation field. Later LN releases use job shop routing sessions with similar fields, so check the help for your version.
