**Notes:** In M3 a company holds divisions, a facility belongs to a division and a warehouse is linked to a facility. Locations belong to a warehouse. Codes shown are samples. Decide coding standards early because facility and warehouse codes are hard to change once transactions exist. Which programs you use to set up each level may differ by version.

## Content

**Intro:** The facility and warehouse structure is one of the first design decisions in an Infor M3 implementation and one of the hardest to change later. This worksheet lays out division, facility, warehouse and locations on one page, with capacity totals.

**Sections:**

#### How to use the worksheet

**Body:** List every physical or logical stock holding place as a row: the division it belongs to, the facility that plans it, the warehouse code and its purpose. Enter the number of locations and capacity per location, and the sheet computes total capacity per warehouse and overall. Review the result with operations, planning and finance, then export the final version to Excel for the settings load.

#### How the M3 structure fits together

**Body:** A company contains divisions, which are the main legal and reporting units. A facility is where planning, production and costing are organised and is connected to a division. A warehouse holds stock and is connected to a facility. Locations divide a warehouse for storage. Separate warehouses are used when stock needs different ownership, valuation, planning or access rules, such as quarantine or work in process.

**Bullets:**

- One facility per planning and costing unit
- One warehouse per distinct stock handling rule
- Locations only where you need to direct or track putaway
- Short, meaningful, consistent codes

#### Common mistakes

**Body:** The usual error is copying the physical layout into too many warehouses, which complicates planning and reporting. The opposite error is merging quarantine, WIP and finished stock into one warehouse and then failing to separate available stock from blocked stock. Also avoid location codes that carry meaning that will change, such as a customer name. Validate with a walk-through of key flows: receipt, putaway, issue to production, pick and ship.

**Cta:** If you are designing or restructuring an M3 landscape, Netray can help analyse your current stock and movement data to test the design against real flows.

**Faq:**

#### What is the difference between a facility and a warehouse in M3?

**Answer:** A facility is a planning and costing unit tied to a division, used for production and planning. A warehouse is a place where stock is held, and it is linked to a facility. One facility can have several warehouses.

#### When should I create a separate warehouse?

**Answer:** When stock needs different rules: different planning, valuation, ownership, access or availability, such as quarantine, work in process or consignment. Do not create warehouses just to mirror aisles; use locations for that.

#### Can I change codes after go-live?

**Answer:** It is difficult once transactions and balances exist. Choose codes carefully, document the standard and test the structure in a pilot before the main load.

#### Do I need locations for every warehouse?

**Answer:** No. Use locations where you must direct putaway or find stock precisely. Small stores or shop floor WIP may work with a single location or simple structure.
