#### Approvals

**Signatures:**

- Thermographer
- Electrical supervisor
- Reliability engineer

**Notes:** Severity scales vary by company and by standard, for example NETA and insurer guidance. State which scale you used. Attach the thermal and visible-light image for each anomaly. Always correct for load, a reading at low load understates the problem. Work on energized equipment must follow your own electrical safety procedure.

## Content

**Intro:** Thermography findings are only as useful as the paperwork that follows them. This template captures the camera settings an auditor will ask about, the temperatures that justify the call and the repair priority your electricians can schedule.

**Sections:**

#### How to use the template

**Body:** Complete the header with emissivity, ambient and load, since these decide whether a number can be trusted. Describe each hotspot with the measured temperature, a like-for-like reference and the delta T. Choose a repair priority from the list, write the recommended action, then add each anomaly to the register table. Export to PDF for the file and to Word if you want to edit before sending to the maintenance supervisor or insurer.

#### Delta T and severity

**Body:** Electrical findings are normally judged by temperature rise against a similar component under the same load, or against ambient. Typical programs treat small differences as monitor items and large differences as urgent. Because heating scales roughly with the square of current, a reading at 50% load can understate the heat at full load by a large factor. Record the load and, if your procedure allows, normalise the delta T.

**Bullets:**

- Compare phase to phase on the same piece of equipment
- Check emissivity of the surface, bare metal reads low
- Rescan after repair and keep before and after images

#### What to include in the anomaly photos

**Body:** Take a thermal image with a visible-light photo of the same view, with the temperature scale locked so readers can compare. Label the item by tag so it links to the equipment record in your CMMS. Avoid reflective surfaces and direct sunlight on outdoor equipment, and never rely on a single measurement point when a line or area box will show the maximum.

#### Common mistakes

**Body:** Typical errors are the wrong emissivity, scanning with closed panels, ignoring wind outdoors, comparing unlike components and leaving out the load. Another is writing a report with no repair date. Each anomaly should end with an owner, a priority and a target date.

**Cta:** Netray can help route thermography findings into ERP maintenance notifications so each hotspot has an owner and a due date.

**Faq:**

#### What emissivity should I use?

**Answer:** Painted or oxidised surfaces and insulating materials are often near 0.90 to 0.95. Bare or shiny metal is far lower, so use electrical tape or paint of known emissivity on the target or use a procedure to measure it. Record whatever you used.

#### Which severity table applies?

**Answer:** Many sites follow NETA or their insurer tables, others have internal tables. This template does not impose a scale. Pick the one required for your site and write it in the report.

#### Is thermography only for electrical equipment?

**Answer:** No. It is also used on bearings, steam traps, refractory, tanks, roofs and pipe insulation. Replace the anomaly register headings to suit if your survey is mechanical or building related.

#### How often should scans be done?

**Answer:** Annual scans are common for electrical systems, with more frequent scans on critical or heavily loaded gear. Insurers sometimes dictate the interval.
