## Content

**Intro:** This inspection report format for manufacturing works for first article, in-process and final inspection. Fill the part, lot, sample and characteristics fields, record measured values and disposition, and export a clean PDF or Word report.

**Sections:**

#### How to use the inspection report format

**Body:** Choose the inspection type, then enter the part number, drawing revision, work order or lot and the sample plan. List the equipment used with its calibration identifiers so the measurement can be traced. Replace the example rows with the characteristics from your ballooned drawing: the nominal, tolerance, method, measured value and a pass or fail for each. Finish with a disposition and signatures. Keep one report per lot or per first article so it can be retrieved by lot number later.

**Bullets:**

- Always record the drawing revision used
- Identify gauges by calibration ID
- Record measured values, not just pass or fail
- Sign and date each report

#### First article, in-process and final inspection

**Body:** First article inspection proves that the process produces a conforming part before volume production, and it covers every characteristic on the drawing. In-process inspection checks critical features during the run, at intervals set by a control plan, to catch drift before scrap piles up. Final inspection checks the finished lot against the sample plan and the order requirements before shipment. The report layout is the same, but the number of characteristics and the sample size differ.

#### Sampling and tolerances

**Body:** Many plants size the sample with ANSI/ASQ Z1.4 (an AQL-based plan), while critical characteristics may be checked at 100%. Write the plan on the report so the acceptance number is clear. For each dimension, record the tolerance as it appears on the drawing, and report the measured value so trends can be seen even when parts pass. A value that sits at the edge of the tolerance on every piece is a warning that the process needs adjustment.

#### Mapping the report to ERP quality records

**Body:** Most ERP systems keep an inspection lot or quality record per receipt, production order or shipment, with characteristics, results and a usage decision. Put that record ID on the report so the paper or PDF can be tied to the transaction, and make the disposition match the ERP usage decision or nonconformance. Where inspection results are typed into the ERP anyway, check whether the characteristics can be pre-loaded from the inspection plan so the report is generated rather than retyped.

**Bullets:**

- Quote the ERP lot or record ID on every report
- Keep dispositions aligned with ERP codes
- Link rejected lots to a nonconformance record

**Cta:** If your inspection plans and results are already in an ERP, Netray can add a private AI layer on your servers that drafts these reports from the quality records. The template here works on its own.

**Faq:**

#### What should a manufacturing inspection report include?

**Answer:** Part number and revision, lot or work order, sample size and plan, equipment used, each characteristic with tolerance and measured value, pass or fail results, disposition, inspector and approver signatures, and the date. Add the ERP record ID for traceability.

#### What is the difference between first article and final inspection?

**Answer:** First article inspection verifies that the process can make a conforming part, covering every drawing characteristic on initial parts. Final inspection verifies a finished lot against a sample plan before shipping. Both can use the same report layout.

#### How many pieces should I inspect?

**Answer:** It depends on your plan. Many plants use ANSI/ASQ Z1.4 with a chosen AQL and inspection level, which gives a sample size from the lot size. Critical or safety characteristics are often inspected at 100%, and customer requirements override the plan.

#### Is this the AS9102 form?

**Answer:** No. It is a general inspection report format. For aerospace first articles, use the AS9102 forms, which have a defined structure for part, product accountability and characteristics. See our AS9102 report template for that.
