**Notes:** The effort score is a relative planning index: 3 points per mapping plus a volume penalty. It ranks interfaces, it does not convert directly to days. Calibrate it against your own delivered interfaces.

## Content

**Intro:** Most M3 projects underestimate integration because nobody wrote down every feed. This worksheet gives you a single register of every interface so you can size, sequence and assign them before design begins.

**Sections:**

#### How to use it

**Body:** Walk each department and ask what leaves M3 or arrives in M3 every day, including files, emails turned into uploads and reports that someone retypes. Give each an ID, name the other system and choose the direction and method. Estimate message volume and the number of distinct mappings. The sheet scores each row so you can see where the heavy work sits. Export to Excel and use it as the basis for the integration design document and test plan.

**Bullets:**

- Include manual uploads, they are interfaces too
- Record the owner on the other side as well as in your team
- Mark which ones are required for go-live and which can follow

#### Method choice

**Body:** In an M3 landscape, MEC is typically used for partner and EDI style message mapping, ION for event driven flows and orchestration across Infor OS, and MI programs through the M3 API for direct transaction calls from other systems. File drops and database reports still exist in many plants and are acceptable for low frequency flows when they are monitored. Pick the method per interface by volume, latency need and who will support it, not by fashion.

#### Reading the score

**Body:** The effort score combines mappings and volume. An interface with several mappings and thousands of messages a day needs error handling, replay and monitoring beyond the base build. Sort the sheet by score descending and review the top five with your architect. Interfaces with low score and low volume often can share a pattern and a developer, which saves design time.

#### Common mistakes

**Body:** Forgetting inbound acknowledgments, status updates and master data syncs is the most common mistake. Another is not defining what happens on failure: who is notified, whether the message is retried, and how a corrected message is replayed. Capture those rules in the notes or a separate column so they become acceptance criteria.

**Cta:** If you want help prioritizing interfaces or testing M3 flows with realistic data without touching production, talk to Netray about a controlled sandbox approach.

**Faq:**

#### What counts as an interface in M3?

**Answer:** Anything that moves data between M3 and another system or person on a repeated basis. That includes EDI, API calls, file transfers, scheduled reports that feed other tools and manual spreadsheet uploads. If it matters to a process, list it.

#### Should reports be listed as interfaces?

**Answer:** Only when a report feeds another system or a regular external deliverable. Pure internal reports belong in a reporting inventory. The goal here is to size integration work and control change on data that leaves or enters M3.

#### How do I estimate message volume?

**Answer:** Use current logs from the legacy system or the partner portal for a typical week and a peak week. Use peak when sizing error handling and throughput. Record both in notes if they differ by more than a factor of two.

#### Can I add my own columns?

**Answer:** The structure here is fixed, but once exported to Excel you can add columns such as test status, security review or contract reference. Keep the Interface ID unchanged so it ties to design and test documents.
