**Summary:**

#### Schedule slip vs plan

**Key:** slip_pct

**Expr:** sum_slip / sum_days_planned * 100

**Format:** percent

**Description:** Total slip divided by total planned days. Persistent slip means owners or due dates are unrealistic.

**Primary:** true

**Notes:** Keep one plan per problem or NCR number. Containment actions close in days, corrective actions in weeks, and the effectiveness check should be dated after enough production has run to prove the fix.

## Content

**Intro:** A corrective action plan turns a root cause into dated, owned actions and proves they worked. This template lists each action against the 8D step it belongs to, tracks owner, due date and status, and measures schedule slip so overdue fixes are visible.

**Sections:**

#### How to use the corrective action plan

**Body:** Open one plan per nonconformance, complaint or audit finding. Start with containment (D3) so no more bad product leaves, then enter the corrective actions that remove the verified root cause (D5 and D6). Add preventive actions (D7) that spread the fix to similar parts, lines or suppliers. Finish with a verification row (D8) dated far enough ahead to collect real data. Edit the status as work moves, record evidence such as a log, record number or revised document, then export to Excel or PDF for the customer or auditor.

**Bullets:**

- One row per action, never a vague row such as 'improve process'.
- Every row needs a named person, not a department.
- Evidence is a record you can hand to an auditor.
- Mark an action 'Not effective' and add a new row rather than overwriting history.

#### The standard corrective action process behind it

**Body:** Most quality systems, including ISO 9001 clause 10.2, IATF 16949 and AS9100, expect the same sequence: react to the nonconformity and contain it, evaluate the need for action by finding the root cause, implement the action, review its effectiveness, and update risks or documents where needed. The 8D steps map directly. Formulating corrective actions means choosing the action that removes the cause, not the symptom. Verifying them means showing, with data over time, that the problem did not return. Retraining alone is rarely accepted as a fix for a systemic cause.

#### How to formulate and verify corrective actions

**Body:** Write each action so a stranger could check whether it was done: what changes, where, and by when. Prefer error-proofing or process controls over reminders. For verification, define the measure before you act, for example zero repeat NCRs of this defect code across the next 30 days of production or three consecutive lots. The slip metric above compares planned days to actual days; if more than a fifth of planned time is being lost, revisit owner workload and due dates.

#### Common mistakes

**Body:** Plans that close at 'training completed' without data, due dates that fall on the same day for every action, and plans that never record containment are the usual audit findings. Another frequent problem is data scattered across email and spreadsheets so nobody can see repeat issues across lots. Link each plan to the NCR number in your ERP or QMS so repeat defects by part, work center and supplier are traceable.

**Cta:** If NCR and receiving data already sit in your ERP, Netray can add a private AI layer on your own servers that drafts the plan, flags overdue actions and spots repeat defects, while a person approves every record.

**Faq:**

#### What should a manufacturing corrective action plan include?

**Answer:** At minimum: the problem reference, containment actions, verified root cause, corrective and preventive actions each with a named owner and due date, and a dated effectiveness check with evidence. Many customers also want approvals and links to updated documents such as the control plan or FMEA.

#### What is the difference between a corrective action plan and an 8D report?

**Answer:** An 8D report tells the whole story of the problem from team to closure. The plan is the action list inside it. Use the plan as a tracker that is updated until the actions are verified, and attach it to the 8D or CAPA record.

#### How long should I wait before verifying effectiveness?

**Answer:** Long enough to see the failure mode if it were still present. For a high volume part that may be a few weeks or several lots; for low volume parts, tie it to the next production orders. Set the criteria before implementing the action.

#### Can I export this to Excel?

**Answer:** Yes. Edit rows in the browser and use the export buttons for Excel, CSV or PDF. Nothing is sent anywhere unless you choose to contact us.
