**Notes:** Formulas are common textbook definitions. Your company may define a KPI differently (for example fill rate by units instead of lines). Write down your definition before publishing a dashboard.

## Content

**Intro:** Most KPI arguments in a management meeting are really definition arguments. This reference lists the formulas for the manufacturing and finance KPIs controllers and operations managers use most, with the unit, the ERP data that normally feeds each one, and a sensible review cadence.

**Sections:**

#### How to use this reference

**Body:** Search by KPI name, area or ERP source, then copy the formula into your KPI definition document. Export the filtered table to Excel to start a KPI catalogue. For each KPI you adopt, add an owner, a target, the exact filter rules (which order types, which plants) and the date field used. The table gives the common starting point, not your final definition.

**Bullets:**

- Filter by area to build a plant, finance or supply chain scorecard
- Use the ERP source column to find which tables or reports to query
- Keep one definition per KPI and publish it next to the dashboard

#### Where definitions diverge

**Body:** Inventory turns can use COGS or sales in the numerator, and average inventory can be a two point or twelve point average. On time delivery can compare to the customer request date, the promise date or the original quote date, and can count lines, orders or value. Fill rate can be measured by line, unit or order. Pick one and state it, because switching mid year makes trends meaningless.

#### Reading the cadence column

**Body:** Fast KPIs such as scrap rate, schedule attainment and OEE are useful daily because the shop floor can still act on them. Financial ratios such as DIO and gross margin only settle after close, so a monthly rhythm is enough. Reviewing a slow KPI daily only adds noise. A KPI nobody can influence within its review period should move to a longer cadence.

#### Common mistakes

**Body:** Averaging percentages across plants instead of recomputing from totals, mixing currencies without a fixed rate, including intercompany sales, and counting partial shipments as late or on time inconsistently are the usual causes of numbers that fail audit. Always compute ratios from summed numerators and denominators.

**Cta:** If these KPIs live in several ERP reports and spreadsheets, Netray can build one governed set of definitions over your ERP data, read-only and on your own infrastructure.

**Faq:**

#### Are these the only correct formulas?

**Answer:** No. They are common definitions. Industry, customer contracts and accounting policy can change them, for example using sales instead of COGS for turns. What matters is writing down one definition and applying it consistently.

#### Which KPIs should a controller track first?

**Answer:** Gross margin, DIO, DSO, DPO and the cash conversion cycle give a quick view of working capital. Add inventory turns and purchase price variance for manufacturers, then operational KPIs the plant already measures.

#### How many KPIs are too many?

**Answer:** A plant dashboard rarely stays useful beyond about 8 to 12 measures. More than that and no one owns them. Keep a catalogue of all definitions but show only the few that drive decisions this period.

#### Can I export this list?

**Answer:** Yes. The table exports to Excel, CSV and PDF, so you can use it as the starting point of a KPI catalogue and add owners, targets and ERP report names.
