## Content

**Intro:** Defense builds often require parts that meet a MIL-PRF specification and appear on a Qualified Products List (QPL) or Qualified Manufacturers List (QML). This worksheet keeps the evidence for each part in one table.

**Sections:**

#### How to use the worksheet

**Body:** List every qualified part on the bill of materials. Select the governing specification and the quality level, record the source type, and mark whether the part and manufacturer appear on the current QPL or QML. Add the date code and whether a certificate of conformance came with the lot. Export to Excel for the first article package or a customer audit.

#### What the columns mean

**Body:** The MIL-PRF number identifies the performance specification, for example 19500 for semiconductors or 38535 for integrated circuits. Quality level shows the screening grade, such as JAN, JANTX, JANTXV and JANS for semiconductors, with JANS at the highest level. Source type matters because supply chain risk rises as you move from the manufacturer toward independent brokers.

**Bullets:**

- Qualification belongs to a specific manufacturer and part, not the family
- Date code supports traceability and age checks
- A C of C does not replace verification of the listing

#### Reading the sheet

**Body:** Sort by Listed and Source type. Items not on the list, or bought from independent brokers, are the ones to inspect first. Those lines often need additional testing, a customer waiver or replacement. The cost column helps weigh the price of replacing a questionable lot against the cost of testing it.

#### Common mistakes

**Body:** Frequent errors include assuming a commercial equivalent is acceptable, using a listing that has since been removed, and skipping source checks on obsolete parts. Remember too that lists change, so confirm status at the time of purchase and again at receiving, not just during design.

**Cta:** Netray can attach QPL status, source type and C of C flags to purchase orders and receipts in your ERP, so questionable lots are held before they reach the line.

**Faq:**

#### What is the difference between QPL and QML?

**Answer:** A QPL lists products qualified to a specification. A QML lists manufacturers whose process is qualified, and is used for microcircuits and hybrids under MIL-PRF-38535 and 38534. Both are maintained by DLA, and you should check the current list.

#### What do JAN, JANTX, JANTXV and JANS mean?

**Answer:** They are quality levels for semiconductors under MIL-PRF-19500. Each step adds screening, with JANS the highest level, typically used in space applications. The detailed screening requirements are in the specification.

#### Can I use a commercial part in place of a MIL-PRF part?

**Answer:** Only if the drawing, contract or an approved deviation allows it. Substitution without approval is a nonconformance on defense work, so ask engineering and the customer before changing anything.

#### Why track source type?

**Answer:** Counterfeit and nonconforming parts risk is much higher from independent brokers. Many defense contracts require buying from the manufacturer or authorized sources, with specific controls if open market purchase is unavoidable.
