## Content

**Intro:** A first article report proves that a new or changed mold produces parts that meet the drawing, cavity by cavity. This template gives you a clean structure for the dimensional table, material checks and sign off, exported as a PDF or Word file.

**Sections:**

#### How to use this report

**Body:** Number every drawing dimension with a balloon and list them in the table. Measure the agreed sample from each cavity after the process is stable, not from the first shots. Record actual values, then mark pass or fail. Complete the material and appearance rows, set the overall result and gather the signatures. Keep the balloon drawing and raw gauge data with the report.

**Bullets:**

- Balloon the drawing before measuring
- Sample from a stable run
- Record measured values, not only pass or fail
- Keep the CMM output attached

#### Why cavity identification matters

**Body:** In a multi cavity mold each cavity is effectively its own process. Shrinkage, venting and cooling differ slightly, so a good average can hide a cavity that is near a limit. Mark every part with its cavity number or keep tray positions traceable, and report by cavity. Later, if a field problem appears, cavity data lets you isolate it rather than quarantine the entire lot.

#### When to repeat the inspection

**Body:** Repeat a full inspection after a new mold, a mold repair that touches the cavity or core, a transfer to another press or plant, a resin grade or supplier change and any significant process change. Many customers also expect periodic requalification. Note the reason on the form so the history of why each report exists is clear.

**Bullets:**

- New mold or steel change
- Mold transfer between presses or plants
- Resin supplier or grade change
- Extended downtime or periodic requalification

#### Common mistakes

**Body:** Measuring warm parts is a classic error. Many plastics keep shrinking for hours, and some absorb moisture, so follow the conditioning time your customer or the resin supplier specifies before measuring critical dimensions. Other errors include skipping cavity traceability, using an uncalibrated gauge and approving a part that passes only on average.

**Cta:** If first article results currently live in spreadsheets, we can discuss tying them to lots and molds in your ERP or quality system.

**Faq:**

#### Is this the same as an AS9102 form?

**Answer:** No. AS9102 has specific required forms for aerospace. This is a general molded part report. If your customer specifies AS9102 or PPAP, use their forms and attach this as supporting detail.

#### How many parts should I measure per cavity?

**Answer:** It depends on the customer requirement and part criticality. Five per cavity is a common starting point, but follow any sampling plan in the quality agreement.

#### Should I wait before measuring?

**Answer:** Yes for critical dimensions. Many resins need hours of conditioning to settle shrinkage, and nylon changes with moisture. Document the conditioning time on the report.

#### Can I add more cavities?

**Answer:** The table has four cavity columns as an example. After export, extend it in Word or Excel to match your tool, or run one report per group of cavities.
