**Notes:** Keep the same quantity on every row for a single-lot quote. Material, freight, overhead and margin are added after this sheet, for example with the quantity price break calculator. Rates should be burdened hourly rates from your costing, not wages.

## Content

**Intro:** A quote that rolls up by operation is easier to check, easier to adjust and closer to how your ERP routing will look once the job is won. This worksheet computes setup, run and outside processing cost for each operation and totals them per piece.

**Sections:**

#### How to use the worksheet

**Body:** Add one row per routing operation in sequence. Enter setup hours, run time per piece in minutes, the burdened hourly rate for that work center, any outside processing cost per piece and the lot quantity. The sheet computes setup cost, run hours, run cost, outside cost, total and cost per piece for every operation, then totals them. The summary shows conversion cost per piece and shares for setup and outside processing. Add the material per piece and your margin from the other tools to reach a price. Export to Excel to attach to a quote file.

**Bullets:**

- Use outside processing rows for plating, heat treat, anodize and coating
- Set rate to zero on outside rows so labor does not double count
- Duplicate the sheet for each quantity break you intend to quote

#### Method and formulas

**Body:** For each operation, setup cost = setup hours x rate, run hours = run minutes / 60 x quantity, run cost = run hours x rate, and outside cost = outside cost per piece x quantity. Operation total adds the three and per-piece cost divides by quantity. This mirrors the routing cost rollup that ERP systems perform, with setup and run elements costed separately so you can see which dominates. Conversion cost is everything except material. Burdened rates should include labor, depreciation, maintenance, tooling, facility and overhead allocation, see the machine hour rate calculator.

#### Reading the example

**Body:** The example routing of six operations at 50 pieces totals roughly 1,350 dollars, or around 27 per piece before material. Setup is a noticeable share and the two milling operations dominate. If the customer will order 200 pieces, setup per piece will fall sharply while run cost per piece will not, which tells you where negotiation room exists. The outside processing share shows how much of the price you pass through, so build in handling, freight and a small allowance for rejects at the vendor.

#### Common mistakes

**Body:** Estimators often omit inspection and deburr because they feel small, but together they can exceed a milling op on tight-tolerance parts. Others use the same rate for every work center, which hides that five-axis time costs much more than a manual saw. Another trap is forgetting transit and wait time when outside processing extends lead time, which matters when quoting delivery. Finally, keep setup hours honest for repeat orders by quoting a reduced setup in a second sheet.

**Cta:** If your quotes should come straight from ERP routings and work center rates, Netray can help wire estimates to the routing data you already maintain.

**Faq:**

#### Can I use different quantities per operation?

**Answer:** You can, but cost per piece for the full job is easiest to read when all rows share one lot quantity. If an operation processes a different quantity, such as a batch heat treat, convert it to a per-piece cost first.

#### Where does material go?

**Answer:** Material is deliberately excluded so this sheet isolates conversion cost. Use the material blank cost calculator for material per piece, then add it before overhead and margin.

#### What rates should I enter?

**Answer:** Use burdened rates from your costing model, covering labor, depreciation, maintenance, power and an overhead share. Wages alone understate cost. A machine hour rate calculator helps build these.

#### How do I add profit?

**Answer:** Add material to conversion cost to get total cost per piece, then divide by one minus your target margin. The setup amortization calculator in this set applies margin on price and shows quantity breaks.
