## Short answer

A 30 item checklist covering data, setup, costing, inventory, roles and cutover before you run production in NetSuite.

## Category

netsuite

## Erp

NetSuite

## Industry

Discrete Manufacturing

## Audience

- NetSuite administrator
- Project manager
- Manufacturing engineer

## Tool

**Kind:** checklist

**Scoring Note:** Critical items should all be complete before cutover. Treat any open critical item as a go-live risk that needs a named owner and a date.

**Groups:**

#### Item and BOM data

**Items:**

**Text:** Every buildable part is an assembly item of the correct subtype (lot, serial or plain)

**Critical:** true

**Text:** Component BOMs reviewed and signed off by engineering

**Critical:** true

**Text:** BOM revisions have effective dates and one is active per assembly

**Critical:** true

Units of measure and conversion rates verified for each item

Phantom assemblies identified and flagged where subassemblies are not stocked

Item naming and numbering convention documented and applied

#### Routing and work centers

**Items:**

Work centers and machine resources set up with capacity and calendars

**Text:** Routings created for each assembly with operation sequence and times

**Critical:** true

Setup time and run time units checked against shop floor data

**Text:** Manufacturing cost templates hold labor and machine rates that finance has approved

**Critical:** true

Operation task generation tested on a sample work order

Outside processing steps modelled and linked to vendors

#### Costing and accounting

**Items:**

**Text:** Costing method (average, FIFO or standard) confirmed per item class

**Critical:** true

**Text:** Standard costs loaded and rolled up if standard costing is used

**Critical:** true

**Text:** Work in process and variance accounts mapped and tested

**Critical:** true

Scrap and yield handling agreed with finance

Period close steps for manufacturing documented

Sample builds posted and the journal impact reviewed by the controller

#### Inventory and locations

**Items:**

**Text:** Locations defined for stores, WIP and finished goods as needed

**Critical:** true

**Text:** Opening balances loaded and reconciled to the physical count

**Critical:** true

Lot or serial numbers loaded where tracking is enabled

Bin management and putaway rules configured if used

Supply replenishment and reorder points reviewed

Backflush versus manual issue policy decided for each assembly

#### Roles, training and cutover

**Items:**

**Text:** Roles separate planners, shop floor users, buyers and finance

**Critical:** true

**Text:** Shop floor users trained on work order completion and build entry

**Critical:** true

Saved searches and dashboards for open work orders, shortages and WIP built

Integration with shop floor, quality or labeling systems tested end to end

**Text:** Cutover plan with freeze dates and rollback steps approved

**Critical:** true

Hypercare owner and daily review meeting scheduled for the first weeks

## Content

**Intro:** Manufacturing projects fail at go-live for ordinary reasons: wrong BOMs, rates nobody approved, opening balances that do not match the floor. This checklist walks through the areas that matter in NetSuite Manufacturing, with the critical items marked.

**Sections:**

#### How to use the checklist

**Body:** Work through the groups in order, tick items as you verify them, and keep a note of the owner for each open item. Export the result to share with the project team. Run it twice: once in the middle of the project to find gaps, and again a week before cutover when the critical items must be closed.

**Bullets:**

- Assign an owner to every open item
- Verify with a real sample build, not only configuration screens
- Re-run after any major data load
- Keep the export as evidence for sign-off

#### Why data comes first

**Body:** Work orders copy BOM components and routing operations at creation time, so errors in master data multiply into every order. A wrong quantity per or a missing operation produces wrong cost, wrong commitments and wrong shortages. Engineering sign-off on BOMs and routings is therefore the cheapest quality control in the whole project.

#### Costing deserves its own review

**Body:** Finance should see sample builds and the journal entries before go-live. The costing method decides how variances appear and how the manufacturing cost template affects work in process. A short session with the controller, using three or four real assemblies, prevents surprises at the first month end close.

#### Common mistakes

**Body:** Teams often load opening balances before the count is final, skip training for shop floor users, or leave integrations until the last week. Another frequent issue is permissions: a role that can create a work order but not complete one stops production on day one.

**Bullets:**

- Opening balances not reconciled to a physical count
- Routing times copied from old systems without checking
- No test of the month end close with manufacturing postings
- No hypercare plan for the first weeks

**Cta:** If you want a second pair of eyes on your readiness, we can review your configuration and data with your NetSuite partner and flag risks before cutover.

**Faq:**

#### Which items are most often missed?

**Answer:** Role permissions for completing work orders, reconciliation of opening balances to the physical count, and a month end test with manufacturing postings are the items teams most often leave until too late. All three are marked critical here.

#### Do I need routings to use NetSuite work orders?

**Answer:** No. Work orders can be used with a BOM only. Routings add operations, work centers and labor and machine costing. Add them when you need scheduling, shop floor tracking or more accurate costing.

#### How long before go-live should I run this?

**Answer:** Run it midway through testing and again about a week before cutover. The first pass finds structural gaps, while the second confirms that all critical items are closed and owners are in place.

#### Does this replace my implementation partner's plan?

**Answer:** No. It is a cross check. Use it alongside the partner's plan to confirm that manufacturing specific topics such as BOM sign-off, costing and shop floor training are covered.
