**Notes:** This is a skeleton, not a mapping of your ERP. Rename fields to match your real entity (for example a D365 data entity, a Business Central API v2.0 page or a NetSuite record) and remove what you do not expose. Validate the result in any OpenAPI linter before publishing.

## Content

**Intro:** Most ERP integrations start with a spec nobody wrote. This generator gives you a valid OpenAPI 3.0 skeleton for one resource, with list and get operations, cursor paging, standard error responses and a schema, ready to refine.

**Sections:**

#### How to use it

**Body:** Choose a plural resource path, the schema name, the id field and the allowed status values. The output includes a list endpoint with a status filter and capped page size, a get-by-id endpoint, bearer authentication, and a schema. Paste it into an editor, rename the fields to the ERP entity you actually expose, and run a linter. The same file can drive a client generator, a mock server, or tool definitions for an AI agent.

**Bullets:**

- Keep list endpoints paged with a hard maximum
- Document 401, 404 and 429 responses
- Use enums for statuses so agents cannot guess values

#### Why a spec matters for AI agents

**Body:** Agents call tools well when the contract is unambiguous. An OpenAPI file gives each operation an operationId, typed parameters and documented responses, which maps cleanly to function or MCP tool definitions. Without it, developers hand-write schemas that drift from the real API. Read-only specs are the safest starting point because they let you grant an agent visibility before you consider any write operations.

#### Reading and extending the output

**Body:** The paging uses a cursor and a nextCursor field, which is more stable than offset paging when ERP rows change during a scan. The schema marks only id and status as required, since ERP records often have sparse optional data. Add line items as a nested array or as a second resource such as sales-order-lines, depending on how large lines get and how your ERP exposes them.

#### Common mistakes

**Body:** Teams often expose raw table names, return unbounded lists, leave out error codes, mix camelCase and snake_case, or describe write endpoints that the service account cannot call. Decide naming rules once, version the path, and keep the spec in source control beside the code so changes are reviewed.

**Cta:** Netray builds and secures ERP APIs and the AI tools on top of them. If you want a second pair of eyes on your spec, ask for a review.

**Faq:**

#### Which OpenAPI version does this use?

**Answer:** It uses OpenAPI 3.0.3, which is supported by nearly every editor, linter, mock server and client generator. If you need 3.1, the main changes are nullable handling and JSON Schema alignment.

#### Can I use this for SAP or Oracle?

**Answer:** Yes as a design starting point for any REST facade. SAP OData services and Oracle REST APIs have their own metadata, so map your fields to those entities rather than copying this schema as is.

#### Why cursor paging rather than offset?

**Answer:** ERP data changes while a client pages through it. Offsets can skip or repeat rows when records are inserted or removed, whereas a cursor tied to a sort key stays consistent.

#### Does this define write endpoints?

**Answer:** No. It is deliberately read-only. Add POST or PATCH only after you have a permission model, validation and an approval step for anything an AI agent might call.
