## Content

**Intro:** New operators need a clear path from first-day safety to independent work. This template sets that out in three 30-day stages with owners, due dates and a sign-off line.

**Sections:**

#### How to use it

**Body:** Fill in the employee, role, supervisor and trainer, then write one goal for each 30-day period. The pre-filled milestones can be edited by adding rows before you export. Print the plan for the employee on day one, review it at each 30-day check-in and file the signed copy in the training record. Use a new copy per employee so goals can match their station and shift.

**Bullets:**

- Write goals that can be measured, such as efficiency against standard
- Name a specific trainer for each station
- Hold the check-ins even when things are going well

#### What the plan covers

**Body:** The first 30 days focus on safety, quality basics and supervised work, because most injuries and escapes occur with unfamiliar operators. The second period builds pace and ownership, with the operator tracked against the standard. The third period tests independence and formal review. This mirrors the way many plants stage on-the-job training, even though the content differs by process.

#### Making it work in practice

**Body:** A plan only helps if the sign-offs are real. Tie station sign-offs to the skills matrix so a supervisor can see who is certified on what. Capture efficiency data from labor tickets so the 60-day review is based on numbers rather than impressions. If you use ERP training records, record completion there so it is available for audits and customer requirements.

#### Common mistakes

**Body:** Many plants hand over a checklist but never review it, so the form is filled in on day 89. Others skip the trainer assignment, leaving the buddy role to whoever is nearby. Another is setting a goal based on the veteran's pace, which sets up the new hire to fail. Use the learning curve calculator to set realistic pace expectations week by week.

**Cta:** If training sign-offs and labor efficiency are tracked in your ERP or MES, we can pull progress against this plan into a single view for supervisors.

**Faq:**

#### Is a 90-day plan enough for all operators?

**Answer:** It suits many entry-level roles. Skilled roles such as CNC setup or welding can take much longer to reach full independence. Extend the plan to 6 or 12 months, or use it for the first stage and add a development plan after.

#### Who should own the plan?

**Answer:** The supervisor owns it, with HR supporting the process and the trainer delivering the station work. Quality and safety teams sign off on their own milestones. A single named owner prevents steps from being missed.

#### Can I add rows to the milestone tables?

**Answer:** Yes. Once exported to Word, you can add rows or edit text freely. Keep the number of milestones small enough that each one is actually reviewed at the check-in.

#### Should the plan be given to the employee?

**Answer:** Yes. A new hire who knows what is expected at each stage learns faster and raises problems earlier. Walk through it on day one, and agree the first 30-day goal together.
