## Content

**Intro:** Oracle Inventory cycle counting assigns counting frequencies to ABC classes, but it does not tell you how many people you need. This calculator turns your class sizes and frequencies into counts per day and counters required.

**Sections:**

#### How to use the calculator

**Body:** Enter the number of items in each ABC class from your cycle count ABC assignment and the number of counts per year you plan for each. Add the days you count, the realistic items per counter hour, and the productive hours each counter has per day. Include a recount rate because variances outside tolerance require a second count and approval.

**Bullets:**

- Use realistic counting rates, not best-case rates
- Productive hours exclude travel, meetings and adjustment approvals
- Slide the Class C frequency to see the staffing effect

#### The formula

**Body:** Base counts per year equal the sum of items times frequency for each class. Total counts add the recount share. Counts per day equal total counts divided by counting days, counter hours per day equal counts per day divided by the counting rate, and counters needed equal counter hours divided by productive hours per counter. A worked case: 400 A items at 12, 1,200 B at 4 and 6,000 C at 1 give 15,600 base counts, about 16,850 with 8 percent recounts, or roughly 67 counts a day.

#### Reading the result

**Body:** The class A share shows where effort goes. Most of a typical cycle count program is spent on the A class, even though it holds few items. If the counters figure comes out fractional, plan for a rotating assignment or smaller counting windows. The Oracle cycle count header can then be set with the class frequencies and the tolerances your accountants accept.

#### Common mistakes

**Body:** Planners often set a class C frequency without checking the total load, then discover the counting team cannot keep up and counts become overdue. Others forget that adjustments need approval time. Also remember that a count schedule generated in Oracle depends on the ABC assignment, so reassign classes when item values change.

**Cta:** If you want counting priorities driven by actual variance history from your ERP, we can discuss a read-only analysis on your own servers.

**Faq:**

#### How many counts per day should cycle counting plan for?

**Answer:** It depends on item counts and the frequency by class. Add up items times annual frequency, add allowance for recounts, and divide by counting days. This calculator does exactly that and converts the result to counter time.

#### What frequencies are typical for ABC classes?

**Answer:** Many sites count A items monthly or more often, B quarterly and C once or twice a year. The right pattern depends on value, variance history and audit requirements, so treat these as starting points, not rules.

#### Does Oracle calculate cycle count schedules for me?

**Answer:** Oracle Inventory generates count requests from the cycle count definition, ABC assignment and the counts per year per class. It does not estimate staffing, so use this calculator to size the team before setup.

#### What is a good recount rate?

**Answer:** It varies with accuracy and tolerance settings. Many programs see single digit percentages once locations and processes are stable. A high rate points to process or data problems rather than a staffing need.
