## Content

**Intro:** Closing a period in Oracle E-Business Suite is mostly about order: subledgers first, accounting and transfer second, GL posting and review third, and period status last. This checklist walks that order and marks the steps that most often cause a reopened period.

**Sections:**

#### How to use the checklist

**Body:** Copy the checklist into your close calendar and tick items as they finish. Critical items are those that, if skipped, usually mean a reopened period or a wrong trial balance. Assign an owner to each group, and record the concurrent request id of each program you run so the evidence is easy to find later. Export to PDF at the end of each close and file it with the reconciliations.

#### Why the order matters

**Body:** General Ledger reflects what the subledgers send. If you close the GL period before every subledger has created accounting and transferred, late items land in a later period or need a reopen. Close each subledger period, then check for unaccounted transactions, then post in GL, then close GL. Period statuses in GL are Open, Closed, Future Entry, Never Opened and Permanently Closed, and you should know which your close policy allows.

**Bullets:**

- Subledger cut-off before accounting
- Accounting before transfer
- Transfer and import before posting
- Posting and review before GL close

#### Common mistakes at month end

**Body:** The usual causes of a painful close are unaccounted transactions found after the fact, journals left unposted or on hold, suspense balances nobody owns, and manual journals entered without support. Another is running revaluation after the reports were already reviewed. Plan revaluation, allocations and translation early in the schedule so the review uses final numbers. Keep a standing list of recurring close exceptions and fix the root cause each quarter.

**Cta:** If your close relies on people running the same status queries every month, we can build a read-only assistant over your EBS tables that shows open items by subledger with the query it ran.

**Faq:**

#### In what order should I close Oracle EBS subledgers?

**Answer:** Close the operational subledgers such as Purchasing, Inventory, Payables, Receivables and Fixed Assets first, after creating accounting and transferring to GL. Then post in GL, review, and close the GL period last. Your own policy may add steps such as consolidation.

#### What is the difference between Closed and Permanently Closed?

**Answer:** A Closed GL period can be reopened by users with the right access if you need to post something. Permanently Closed cannot be reopened from the application, so use it only after the period is fully signed off and audited.

#### Why are unaccounted transactions a problem at close?

**Answer:** Transactions that have not been accounted by Create Accounting do not reach the GL, so the trial balance is incomplete. They can also block the subledger period from closing. Run the unaccounted transactions report before closing each period.

#### Does this checklist cover every EBS release?

**Answer:** It follows the general R12 flow with Subledger Accounting. Exact program names and options differ by module version and your configuration, so adapt the list to your own close calendar and keep what applies to you.
