**Outputs:**

#### Material cost with yield loss

**Key:** mat_cost

**Expr:** material / (yield / 100)

**Format:** currency

**Description:** Raw material divided by yield, so scrap is carried in the cost.

**Expr:** labor * overhead_pct / 100

**Format:** currency

#### Standard cost per unit

**Key:** total

**Expr:** mat_cost + labor + overhead

**Format:** currency

**Primary:** true

#### Standard value of one lot

**Key:** lot_value

**Expr:** total * lot_size

**Format:** currency

**Primary:** true

**Chart:**

#### Standard cost per unit vs lot size

**Type:** line

**X:** lot_size

**From:** 10

**To:** 1000

**Steps:** 30

**Disclaimer:** Single-level illustration with overhead absorbed on labor. Real rollups sum components across BOM levels and may use machine-hour or other overhead bases.

## Content

**Intro:** A standard cost in Oracle Fusion Cost Accounting is built from material, resource and overhead elements for each item. Before you load or defend a new standard, this calculator lets you see how yield, setup and lot size move the number.

**Sections:**

#### How to use it

**Body:** Enter the material cost per good unit, then the expected yield. Add setup hours per lot, the lot size you will cost against, run minutes per unit and the loaded labor rate. Overhead is applied as a percentage of labor, which is a common basis for labor-driven operations. The tool returns each cost element per unit and the total standard cost. Use it to compare two routings, test a new lot size, or explain a variance to operations before a cost update goes live.

#### The method

**Body:** Yield loss is carried by dividing material by yield, so 96% yield turns 18.40 into about 19.17. Setup is a fixed cost per lot, so it falls per unit as lots grow. Run labor is linear. Overhead is labor times the overhead rate. This mirrors how a costed routing accumulates resource cost and how overhead absorption works. A multi-level rollup repeats the calculation up the bill of material, treating each lower-level cost as material for its parent.

**Bullets:**

- Material = raw material / yield
- Setup per unit = setup hours x rate / lot size
- Overhead = labor x overhead rate

#### Reading results and pitfalls

**Body:** The chart shows why the costing lot size matters: setup per unit drops quickly at small lots and flattens later. If you cost at a lot size production never runs, you create persistent favorable or unfavorable variances. Other pitfalls are applying yield twice, forgetting that overhead on labor misprices machine-heavy work, and rolling costs with stale rates. Agree the costing lot size with planning, and keep the yield consistent with scrap reporting.

**Cta:** If you want standard cost scenarios compared against actual cost variances pulled from Oracle, we can build a review for you. It is optional and the calculator works without it.

**Faq:**

#### Is this the same as running a cost rollup in Oracle?

**Answer:** No. It is a one-level illustration that mirrors the logic. Oracle rolls up multi-level bills, routings, resource rates and overhead rules from your setup. Use this tool to sanity check or to model a change before you configure it.

#### Why divide material by yield?

**Answer:** Because you must buy more material than the good output contains. Dividing by yield spreads the cost of scrap across good units. Make sure scrap is not also carried as a component scrap factor, or you will count it twice.

#### What overhead basis should I use?

**Answer:** Use the driver that explains the cost. Labor-intensive work suits labor-based overhead, while machine-intensive work is usually better absorbed per machine hour. Choose one basis and apply it consistently so variances stay meaningful.

#### Which lot size should I cost against?

**Answer:** The typical lot you actually run, not the largest possible one. A costing lot size far from reality produces setup variances every period. Align it with the planning lot size or the average work order quantity.
