## Content

**Intro:** An order entry error is cheap to make and expensive to fix. Someone has to find it, correct the order, and sometimes reship or issue a credit. This calculator puts a price on that work and shows what a lower error rate is worth.

**Sections:**

#### How to use it

**Body:** Enter monthly order volume and the share of orders with an error, then the time it takes to find and correct one. Add the share that lead to a reshipment or credit and the average cost of that event. Set a target error rate to see the annual saving. The chart sweeps the error rate so you can see how the cost scales and where automation or training pays back.

#### The method

**Body:** Errors equal orders times error rate. Cost per error equals correction time in hours times labor rate, plus the share needing a reshipment or credit times its cost. Monthly cost is errors times cost per error, and the annual saving at the target equals the drop in error rate times orders times cost per error times twelve. The model is linear, so halving the error rate halves the cost.

**Bullets:**

- Typical error sources are wrong price, quantity, ship-to and part revision
- Count errors found at pick time as well as customer-reported ones
- Credit memos should be counted at the cost to the business, not the invoice value

#### Common mistakes

**Body:** Most teams undercount errors because they log only those the customer reports. Sample a few hundred orders against the customer purchase order to get a true rate. Another mistake is treating all errors as equal: a wrong ship-to date costs minutes while a wrong part revision can scrap a shipment. If your mix is skewed, run the calculator separately for minor and major errors and add the results.

**Cta:** Netray can add read-only checks that compare incoming purchase orders to ERP orders and flag mismatches before release, with a person approving any change.

**Faq:**

#### What is a good order accuracy rate?

**Answer:** Many well-run order desks report accuracy between 98 and 99.5 percent, but definitions vary. Measure against the customer purchase order, not just internal checks.

#### How do I count the error rate?

**Answer:** Sample orders and compare every field to the source document. The share with at least one field wrong is the error rate by order.

#### Does EDI remove errors?

**Answer:** It removes keying errors, but mapping and master data errors can repeat at scale. Test the mapping thoroughly.

#### Should I include customer goodwill?

**Answer:** It is real but hard to measure. Keep it out of the base number and treat it as an extra benefit.
