## Content

**Intro:** Plants often depend on a handful of people: the quality manager, a senior programmer, the maintenance lead, the ERP administrator. This worksheet shows which roles carry the most risk and where no successor exists.

**Sections:**

#### How to use the worksheet

**Body:** List the roles that would hurt most if vacant for three months, not just managers. Include technical specialists, such as a lead programmer or a person who knows the legacy ERP customizations. Score the impact if the role is vacant and the chance the incumbent leaves. The sheet multiplies them to produce exposure. Then name a successor if one exists, rate readiness and write a development action with a review date. Sort by exposure and start with the top rows.

**Bullets:**

- Include technical and specialist roles
- Rate impact and risk separately
- Name successors, not only categories
- Review quarterly with HR

#### Reading exposure and readiness

**Body:** Exposure ranges from 1 to 25. Anything above 15 deserves attention, particularly where readiness is no successor or three or more years. Quick mitigations include documenting procedures and programs, cross training, interim coverage agreements and external recruiting pipelines. Readiness definitions should be consistent: ready now means could step in with minimal support, one to two years means needs stretch assignments and training. Avoid naming someone as successor without discussing it with them where policy allows.

#### Common mistakes

**Body:** Plans often cover only the management ladder and miss the hidden single points of failure on the shop floor and in IT. Another trap is a plan written once and never reviewed. People change roles, markets tighten and risk scores go stale. Finally, do not confuse a successor list with a development plan. Without a concrete development action and date, a name on the sheet is not a plan.

**Bullets:**

- Look for single points of failure in tribal knowledge
- Update at least twice a year
- Pair every name with a development action
- Keep the file confidential

**Cta:** If key knowledge lives in a person's head or in undocumented ERP customizations, Netray can help capture and query it privately as part of a continuity plan.

**Faq:**

#### Which roles belong on a plant succession plan?

**Answer:** Include leadership roles and any role that would stop production, quality release or shipping if vacant for a quarter: lead programmers, toolmakers, calibration lead, maintenance planners and the ERP administrator.

#### How is exposure calculated?

**Answer:** It is the impact score times the risk of loss score, each from 1 to 5, so the result runs from 1 to 25. It is a ranking aid for prioritizing action, not a precise measure.

#### How often should I update it?

**Answer:** Review at least twice a year, and any time there is a resignation, promotion or reorganization. Link the review to your talent review calendar so it does not get dropped.

#### Is it okay to share the worksheet with the team?

**Answer:** Generally no. It holds sensitive judgments about individuals. Share it only with those who need it, such as the plant leadership team and HR, and follow your company policy and local employment law.
