## Tool

**Kind:** calculator

**Inputs:**

#### PMs scheduled in period

**Key:** scheduled

**Type:** number

**Default:** 240

**Min:** 0

**Step:** 1

**Unit:** work orders

#### PMs completed on time

**Key:** on_time

**Type:** number

**Default:** 198

**Min:** 0

**Step:** 1

**Unit:** work orders

**Help:** Completed within your allowed window, for example plus or minus 10 percent of the interval.

#### PMs completed late

**Key:** late

**Type:** number

**Default:** 22

**Min:** 0

**Step:** 1

**Unit:** work orders

#### PM hours planned

**Key:** pm_planned

**Type:** number

**Default:** 480

**Min:** 0

**Step:** 10

**Unit:** hours

#### PM hours actually booked

**Key:** pm_actual

**Type:** number

**Default:** 520

**Min:** 0

**Step:** 10

**Unit:** hours

#### Reactive and corrective hours booked

**Key:** reactive

**Type:** number

**Default:** 1100

**Min:** 0

**Step:** 10

**Unit:** hours

**Outputs:**

#### PM compliance (on time)

**Key:** compliance

**Expr:** on_time / scheduled * 100

**Format:** percent

**Primary:** true

**Description:** On-time completions divided by scheduled PMs.

#### PM completion (on time or late)

**Key:** completion

**Expr:** (on_time + late) / scheduled * 100

**Format:** percent

#### PMs not done

**Key:** overdue

**Expr:** max(0, scheduled - on_time - late)

**Format:** integer

#### PM hours variance

**Key:** variance

**Expr:** (pm_actual - pm_planned) / pm_planned * 100

**Format:** percent

**Description:** Positive means PMs take longer than planned.

#### PM share of maintenance hours

**Key:** pm_share

**Expr:** pm_actual / (pm_actual + reactive) * 100

**Format:** percent

**Primary:** true

**Description:** Preventive hours as a share of PM plus reactive hours.

**Disclaimer:** Definitions of on time and of a scheduled PM differ between sites. Keep the same window and scope each period so the trend is comparable.

## Content

**Intro:** PM compliance shows whether the preventive program is being done as planned. This calculator gives the headline percentage, the number of PMs missed and two ratios that explain why: hours variance and the share of effort spent on preventive work.

**Sections:**

#### How to use it

**Body:** Count the PM work orders scheduled for the period, then how many were completed within your allowed window and how many were completed late. Enter planned and booked PM hours, plus the hours booked to reactive and corrective work. The calculator gives on-time compliance, total completion, the number not done, the hours variance and PM share. Use the same period for every figure, usually a month, and run it per plant, area or craft to find where the problem is.

#### Formula and definitions

**Body:** PM compliance is on-time completed PMs divided by scheduled PMs, multiplied by 100. Industry bodies such as SMRP publish detailed definitions, and many sites set a window around the due date, for example plus or minus 10 percent of the interval or a fixed number of days. A common target for mature programs is above 90 percent, though the right target depends on task criticality. Whatever you pick, document it so numbers are comparable.

**Bullets:**

- Compliance = on-time PMs / scheduled PMs
- Completion = (on time + late) / scheduled
- Variance = (actual - planned) / planned hours
- PM share = PM hours / (PM + reactive hours)

#### Reading the result

**Body:** High compliance with a high reactive share suggests PM tasks are wrong, not missed. Low compliance with low variance usually means a scheduling or labor problem. A positive hours variance of more than about 10 percent means task estimates are too low and the schedule will keep slipping. Track compliance by criticality too, because missing a lube task on a bottleneck machine matters more than missing a housekeeping task.

#### Common mistakes

**Body:** Closing PM work orders without doing them, rescheduling due dates to hide late work, counting an entire route as one order, and mixing inspections with repairs. Rewarding compliance alone encourages box ticking, so pair it with failure trends and findings per PM. In an ERP, pull the numbers from work order status and dates, not from manual spreadsheets.

**Cta:** Netray can compute PM compliance by plant, craft and criticality straight from your ERP work order tables, and show the query it used.

**Faq:**

#### How do you calculate PM compliance?

**Answer:** Divide the number of preventive work orders completed within the allowed window by the number scheduled for the period, then multiply by 100. Decide in advance how wide the window is and keep it fixed.

#### What is a good PM compliance target?

**Answer:** Many sites aim above 90 percent for critical assets. A single plant wide number can hide problems, so also check compliance by criticality and craft.

#### Does 100 percent PM compliance mean the program is good?

**Answer:** Not necessarily. Compliance only measures whether tasks were done. If failures keep happening, the tasks may be wrong, too shallow or poorly executed. Check failure trends and findings alongside.

#### Should late PMs count as compliant?

**Answer:** Strict compliance counts only on-time work, and this calculator reports late completions separately in the completion rate. Choose one definition and report both so the difference is visible.
