## Content

**Intro:** Relief devices are the last line of defence against overpressure, and an auditor will ask to see the register. This worksheet gives you a clean table for tags, set pressures, test intervals and status that exports to Excel.

**Sections:**

#### How to use the worksheet

**Body:** Add a row for each pressure relief valve, rupture disc or vent on your site. Enter the set pressure and the protected equipment's maximum allowable working pressure. The sheet calculates the set pressure as a percentage of MAWP so mismatches stand out. Enter the last test date and the interval, mark the status, then export to Excel to add your own due-date formulas, filters or conditional formatting. Keep the exported file under document control or load it into your maintenance system.

#### What the ratio tells you

**Body:** The set pressure should not exceed the MAWP of the protected equipment, and is normally set with some margin below it. A ratio near 100% leaves little room for accumulation, while a very low ratio can cause nuisance lifting at normal operating pressure. Compare with the normal operating pressure too: a common practice keeps operation at or below roughly 90% of set pressure for spring valves, though your design basis governs.

**Bullets:**

- Over 100%: stop and check the data or the design
- 90% to 100%: verify accumulation allowance in the design basis
- Well below operating margin: expect leakage or chatter

#### Test intervals

**Body:** Intervals depend on service, corrosion rate, fouling history and local law. Clean service valves often run longer intervals than polymerising or corrosive service, and rupture discs are usually replaced on a fixed schedule or per manufacturer. Record the basis for each interval and shorten it if as-found tests show failures. Track as-found results in notes so the history supports any future extension.

#### Common mistakes

**Body:** Frequent failures include devices missing from the register, copied set pressures that no longer match the current design after a change, isolation valves left closed under a relief device, and tags that differ between the register and the field. Verify the register against the P&IDs after every management of change.

**Cta:** Netray can help sync inspection registers with ERP maintenance plans so due tests generate work orders automatically.

**Faq:**

#### How often should relief valves be tested?

**Answer:** It depends on service, history and law. Many chemical sites use intervals between one and ten years based on risk-based inspection. Corrosive or fouling service usually needs shorter intervals.

#### Can set pressure equal MAWP?

**Answer:** Often the set pressure can be equal to MAWP for a single device, with allowed accumulation above it, but design codes and your engineers decide. Never exceed MAWP with the set pressure.

#### What is an as-found test?

**Answer:** A test of the device in the condition it was removed, before any cleaning or repair. It shows whether the valve would have opened at the right pressure in service and guides the interval.

#### Does this replace a CMMS?

**Answer:** No. It is a quick register and export tool. For scheduled work orders and history, load the data into your maintenance system or ERP.
