#### Primary standard

**Key:** standard

**Type:** text

**Default:** IEC 62368-1 (audio/video and ICT equipment safety)

#### Test laboratory

**Key:** lab

**Type:** text

**Default:** Accredited third-party lab

#### Lab report number

**Key:** lab_ref

**Type:** text

**Default:** LR-2026-04417

#### Deviations and observations

**Key:** observations

**Type:** textarea

**Default:** Temperature rise on the power supply heatsink reached 92 C against a limit of 95 C. Margin is thin and a design review is recommended.

**Blocks:**

#### Product Safety Test Summary

Standard: {{standard}}
Laboratory: {{lab}}
Lab report: {{lab_ref}}
Report date: {{date}}
Samples: {{sample}}

#### Tests performed

**Table:**

**Columns:**

- Test
- Clause
- Requirement
- Measured
- Result

**Rows:**

**0:** Dielectric strength

**0:** Protective earth continuity

**0:** Temperature rise

**0:** Abnormal operation

**0:** Enclosure and mechanical

**Columns:**

- Action
- Owner
- Due date
- Status

**Rows:**

#### Review and approval

**Signatures:**

- Prepared by
- Design engineering

- Quality manager

**Notes:** The summary is an internal aid. It does not replace the full laboratory report, which remains the evidence of conformity. Edit the test names and clauses to match the standard that applies to your product.

## Content

**Intro:** A full lab report can run to hundreds of pages. Engineering managers and auditors need the answer on one page. This template captures the standard, samples, results and open actions so that the decision on a test campaign is clear and recorded.

**Sections:**

#### How to use the template

**Body:** Enter the product, design revision, standard, laboratory and report number. Add the measured result for each clause tested in the table by editing the export, or add rows before you export. Choose the overall result, and write any deviations in plain language. Export to PDF or Word and file it in the technical file next to the lab report. Link the document to the design revision, since a pass on Rev C says nothing about Rev D.

#### Why the revision matters

**Body:** Safety evidence is tied to a specific design. If you change a power supply, a plastic grade or a creepage distance, earlier results may no longer apply. Record the revision tested and the sample serial numbers so you can show that the tested sample represented the production design. Many teams also record the critical component list used in the test, because a later substitution can invalidate approvals.

**Bullets:**

- Design revision and serial numbers of samples
- Standard and edition applied
- Margins to limits, not only pass or fail
- Open actions with owners and dates

#### Reading margins

**Body:** A pass with a tiny margin is a risk that a normal production variation will cause a fail later. In the example, a temperature rise of 92 C against a 95 C limit passes but leaves little room. Write the margin in the observations so reviewers can see it, and decide whether to redesign or accept with monitoring. Treat any observation as an item to close or consciously accept.

#### Common mistakes

**Body:** Common errors include summarising a report for an old standard edition, omitting failed attempts from the record, and not noting which samples were modified during testing. Keep the summary honest: include retests and the reason for them. Finally, do not rely on the summary alone in an audit. Keep the underlying report easy to retrieve.

**Cta:** If you want test results linked to item revisions and change orders in your ERP, we can help set up that traceability.

**Faq:**

#### Does this replace the lab report?

**Answer:** No. The lab report is the evidence. This summary helps managers and auditors see the outcome quickly and tracks follow-up actions. Always keep the original report with the technical file and reference its number on the summary.

#### Which standard should I put in?

**Answer:** The one that applies to your product type and market, such as IEC 62368-1 for many ICT and audio-visual products or IEC 61010-1 for measurement and control equipment. Confirm the applicable standard and edition with your certifier.

#### What if the result is Pass with observations?

**Answer:** Record each observation with an owner and a due date, and decide whether to change the design. Close them out before a series release where possible. If you accept one, document the reasoning and the risk.

#### How many samples should be tested?

**Answer:** It depends on the standard and the test. Many tests use one or a few representative samples, while others need more. Ask the lab or certifier what the scheme requires, and record the serial numbers used.
