#### Quote lines

**Key:** lines

**Expr:** count

**Format:** integer

**Notes:** Unit cost = (compound + press time + labor + secondary) divided by (1 - scrap). Compound = part weight x (1 + flash) / 1000 x $/kg. Press time = $/hr x cycle seconds / 3600 / cavities. Price = unit cost divided by (1 - margin), so margin is a share of the selling price. Tooling, setup, freight and packaging are not included; add them as separate lines or in Labor and Secondary $/part. Example figures are illustrative.

## Content

**Intro:** Rubber quoting fails when the sheet hides assumptions. This worksheet puts every cost driver in a column, so a salesperson or estimator can see compound, press time, labor, secondary operations, scrap and margin for each part and export the whole quote to Excel.

**Sections:**

#### How to use it

**Body:** Add one row per part number and order quantity. Fill part weight, flash, compound cost, press cycle, cavities and press rate, then labor and secondary cost per part, scrap percent and target margin. Unit cost, unit price and extended price compute automatically, and totals show the quote value. Change a cavity count or cycle time and watch the price respond, then export to Excel for the customer pack.

**Bullets:**

- Take part weight and flash from the calculator or from weighed samples.
- Use press cycle including cure and handling, not cure alone.
- Put one-time tooling and setup on a separate line.

#### Costing method

**Body:** Four direct cost elements are summed per part: compound by weight, press time shared across cavities, direct labor, and secondary operations such as deflash, post-cure, inspection and packing. Scrap is applied by dividing by one minus the scrap rate, which correctly grosses up for parts that must be molded to yield one good part. The selling price divides by one minus margin, so a 25 percent margin means 25 percent of the price is profit.

#### Reading the example

**Body:** In the sample rows, the FKM seal carries compound cost far above the NBR gasket despite a lower part weight, because FKM is priced many times higher per kilogram. The silicone diaphragm is dominated by cycle time and post-cure labor instead. Looking across rows shows which parts are material-driven and which are time-driven, so you know whether to negotiate compound price or push cavitation and cycle.

#### Common mistakes

**Body:** Mixing margin and markup is the most common error: 25 percent markup on cost is only 20 percent margin. Others are using full press capacity instead of efficiency, leaving out post-cure and inspection, and forgetting to reprice when compound costs move. Also remember that volume breaks change setup absorption, so quote each quantity break as its own row.

**Cta:** Netray can link a sheet like this to your ERP item master, routings and compound prices so rates and weights fill themselves. Ask for a short review of your quoting workflow.

**Faq:**

#### Is margin the same as markup?

**Answer:** No. Margin is profit as a share of selling price; markup is profit as a share of cost. A 25 percent margin requires a 33.3 percent markup. This worksheet divides cost by one minus margin, so the margin figure is a true margin.

#### How should I treat tooling cost?

**Answer:** Quote tooling as a separate one-time line, or amortize it over an agreed quantity and state that clearly. Folding it silently into piece price makes re-orders and volume changes hard to manage.

#### How is press cost per part calculated?

**Answer:** Press hourly rate times cycle seconds, divided by 3600, divided by cavities. That is machine cost per molded part before scrap. Using real efficiency in the hourly rate or cycle keeps it honest.

#### Can I export this to Excel?

**Answer:** Yes. The page exports the worksheet to Excel, CSV and PDF. Computed columns export as values, so keep the browser copy if you want to keep editing the formulas.
