## Content

**Intro:** Before a bill of materials goes into Business One, someone should check that its material cost makes sense. This worksheet rolls up component cost with a scrap allowance so you can compare it with the cost the system shows.

**Sections:**

#### How to use the worksheet

**Body:** List each component from the BOM with the quantity needed for one parent unit, a scrap allowance and the current unit cost. The extended cost column multiplies quantity by one plus the scrap percentage by the unit cost. The total is the material cost per finished unit. Add or delete rows, then export to Excel to share with engineering and finance.

#### The formula

**Body:** Extended cost equals quantity times (1 plus scrap divided by 100) times unit cost. Scrap here is the extra quantity you expect to consume beyond the theoretical requirement, due to cutting loss, setup or rejects. If the BOM already includes the scrap in its quantity, enter zero to avoid double counting. Sub-assemblies should carry their own rolled-up cost from a separate sheet or from the system.

#### Using it with Business One

**Body:** Business One production BOMs list components with quantities per parent, and production orders consume them at the configured issue method. Item cost depends on your valuation method, for example standard, moving average or FIFO, so the system cost may differ from this sheet when purchase prices move. Use the sheet as a sanity check on newly migrated BOMs, not as a replacement for the system's costing.

**Bullets:**

- Explode one finished good fully and compare each line
- Check units of measure for each component
- Investigate any line more than a few percent away from the system cost

#### Common mistakes

**Body:** Mixing purchase UoM and inventory UoM, such as costing per metre against a quantity in millimetres. Forgetting packaging and consumables. Using a stale price list. Entering scrap twice, once in the BOM quantity and once here.

**Cta:** If you want BOM and cost anomalies flagged automatically from live ERP data, Netray can build a read-only reporting layer for your system.

**Faq:**

#### Does this replace Business One costing?

**Answer:** No. It is a check on material cost for one BOM. The system's valuation method, overhead and variance accounts determine actual postings. Differences are a prompt to investigate, not necessarily an error.

#### How should I treat scrap?

**Answer:** Enter the expected extra consumption as a percent of the theoretical quantity. Base it on measured yield. If a process loses 5 percent, enter 5. Do not add scrap if the BOM quantity already includes it.

#### How do I cost multi-level BOMs?

**Answer:** Roll up the lowest level first, then enter each sub-assembly's cost as a unit cost in the parent sheet. Repeat up the structure. This keeps each sheet short and easy to audit.

#### Can I add labour and overhead?

**Answer:** Yes. Add lines with a quantity in hours and a rate as the unit cost. Keep the type labelled, so you can separate material from conversion cost when comparing with the system.
