#### What a configuration profile controls

**Body:** The profile, created with CU41, is assigned to the configurable material and tells the system which class and which BOM to use during configuration. It can also carry dependencies and settings that govern how configuration behaves, for example whether the BOM is exploded multilevel. Without a valid profile the material cannot be configured in a sales order or a production order.

#### Reading the pre-release table

The test configuration row is the most important because it uses the real chain: characteristic selection, dependency check, BOM explosion and pricing. Record the result with the test order number so the evidence is traceable.

Another common defect is copying a profile from a similar material and keeping dependencies that refer to characteristics the new class does not have.
