## Content

**Intro:** Most engineering changes start as a request, long before a change number exists in SAP. This template gives the requester a consistent form that captures the reason, the impact and the stock decision, so the change board can decide with the full picture.

**Sections:**

#### How to use the form

**Body:** The requester fills the fields and describes the change in a few sentences. Planning and purchasing add impact notes, then the approvers sign. Export to PDF for the change board or Word for edits. After approval, create the change master in SAP and write its number back on the ECR so both records are linked.

**Bullets:**

- Be specific about part numbers and revisions
- State what happens to existing stock
- List open orders that use the old design
- Do not create the change number before approval

#### ECR, ECO and ECN

**Body:** Companies use these terms differently. A common pattern is that the ECR is the request, the ECO is the approved order to implement, and the ECN is the notice sent to the people affected. In SAP the change number is the system object that carries the validity date. Define your own terms in the procedure and keep this form for the first step.

#### Reading the impact table

**Body:** Every Y in the impact table needs an owner and a date. Open purchase and production orders are the area most often missed, since they decide whether the change takes effect at a date or at a serial number or lot. If the table shows no impact for a quality or regulatory change, challenge the answer.

#### Common mistakes

**Body:** A vague description such as improve part leads to rework. Another is skipping the stock treatment, which causes old and new parts to mix. A third is approving without purchasing and planning input, which leaves long lead items unready on the effective date.

**Cta:** If you want to automate the impact lookup for BOMs, routings and open orders from your SAP data, we can set that up as a read-only tool.

**Faq:**

#### What is the difference between ECR and ECN?

**Answer:** An ECR is a request for a change that needs review. An ECN is the notice that an approved change will take effect. Many companies also use an ECO between them. Definitions vary, so write yours down.

#### When should I create the SAP change number?

**Answer:** After the ECR is approved. Creating it earlier can lead to numbers for changes that never proceed. Link the SAP number back to the ECR for traceability.

#### Who should sign an ECR?

**Answer:** At minimum engineering and quality. For changes affecting supply, planning and purchasing should sign too. Regulated products may need additional approvers, such as regulatory affairs.

#### Is this form suitable for regulated products?

**Answer:** It is a starting point. Medical, aerospace and automotive products usually need extra fields such as customer approval or FAI impact. Add them to match your quality system.
