## Content

**Intro:** Storage bin master data is one of the first things a SAP EWM project has to get right, and it usually starts life in Excel. This worksheet lets you stage bins, dimensions and capacity limits, calculates volume for you, and exports a clean list for review or loading.

**Sections:**

#### How to use the worksheet

**Body:** Add one row per storage bin. Fill the storage type, storage section and bin type from your warehouse structure design, then enter the physical length, width and usable height in centimetres. The sheet calculates gross volume and usable volume using your max fill percentage. Use the review status column to track which rows the warehouse team has signed off, so only Approved rows reach the load file. Export to Excel or CSV when you are ready to hand the list to the data migration team.

**Bullets:**

- One row per physical bin location
- Use the same bin naming convention your labels will carry
- Measure usable height under the beam, not rack height
- Mark rows Approved only after a physical walk

#### What the calculated columns mean

**Body:** Gross volume is length times width times height, converted from cubic centimetres to cubic metres by dividing by 1,000,000. Usable volume multiplies that by the max fill percentage, which reflects that pallets rarely use every cubic centimetre of an opening. Many sites derive bin capacity in EWM from the storage bin type and a capacity check in the putaway strategy, so this figure is a planning input and a sanity check, not a substitute for the configured capacity check.

#### Worked example

**Body:** A pallet rack opening of 120 by 100 by 150 cm gives 1.8 cubic metres gross. At 90 percent max fill the usable volume is 1.62 cubic metres. A shelf bin of 80 by 40 by 35 cm gives 0.112 cubic metres gross and about 0.095 usable at 85 percent. Summing usable volume across all rows gives a quick check against the cubic volume the project team expects the whole warehouse to hold, which exposes missing aisles or duplicate rows early.

#### Common mistakes

**Body:** Bin master data errors are expensive to fix after stock is posted, so catch them in the spreadsheet stage.

**Bullets:**

- Duplicate bin names across different storage types
- Mixing inches and centimetres in the same column
- Using nominal rack height instead of the usable opening
- Loading bins before storage types and sections exist in configuration
- Forgetting weight limits on upper levels

**Cta:** If bin and stock data have to be cleansed from a legacy warehouse system before go-live, we can build a private tool that reads the source data on your own servers and flags the rows that will fail.

**Faq:**

#### Can this worksheet upload directly into SAP EWM?

**Answer:** No. It stages and checks the data and exports to Excel or CSV. Loading is done through your project's chosen method, such as a migration tool, a custom program or manual creation of storage bins, after the layout is verified in a sandbox.

#### Why is usable volume lower than gross volume?

**Answer:** Because the max fill percentage reduces the opening to a realistic planning capacity. Pallets overhang, load heights vary and safety clearance is needed. Typical fill limits are well below 100 percent for racked locations.

#### Should I track stock quantities here?

**Answer:** No. This sheet is for bin master data only. Initial stock should come from a separate, reconciled stock load so that bin structure and quantity errors can be found independently.

#### How many bins can I put in the sheet?

**Answer:** It runs in your browser, so a few hundred rows work smoothly. For tens of thousands of bins, prepare the list in Excel or a script and use this sheet for the design patterns and a sample check.
