#### Goods receipt inspection for purchase order

**Type:** 01

**Trigger:** Goods receipt (MIGO, movement type 101) against a PO

**Plan:** Material specification or inspection plan, usage Goods receipt

**Note:** Needs the QM procurement flag in the material master and an active inspection type in the QM view.

#### Goods receipt inspection for production order

**Type:** 04

**Trigger:** Goods receipt from a production order (movement type 101 via CO11N or MIGO)

**Plan:** Inspection plan for the produced material

**Note:** Often used for finished goods inspection after the last operation.

#### Goods receipt inspection for other receipts

**Type:** 05

**Trigger:** Goods receipt without a PO or order reference (for example movement type 501)

**Plan:** Inspection plan or material specification

**Note:** Check which movement types are linked to the inspection lot origin in your system.

#### Stock transfer inspection

**Type:** 08

**Trigger:** Stock transfer posting (for example plant to plant)

**Plan:** Inspection plan for the receiving plant

**Note:** Active only when the inspection type is switched on in the receiving plant's QM view.

#### Delivery inspection

**Type:** 09

**Trigger:** Outbound delivery in SD before goods issue

**Plan:** Inspection plan for the delivered material

**Note:** Used for outgoing quality checks and customer specific test certificates.

#### Recurring inspection

**Type:** 14

**Trigger:** Scheduled inspection of stock, run via QA07 or batch job

**Plan:** Inspection plan for the stored material

**Note:** Drives shelf life or storage quality checks. Needs a recurring inspection interval in the material master.

#### Production resource or tool inspection

**Type:** 15

**Trigger:** Inspection of a PRT such as a gauge or fixture

**Plan:** Inspection plan with PRT usage

**Note:** Related to calibration inspection under QM and PM inspection management.

#### Manual inspection lot

**Type:** 89

**Trigger:** Created by hand with QA01

**Plan:** Optional, depends on the inspection type setup

**Note:** Useful for ad hoc inspections and testing configuration.

**Notes:** Inspection types and their origins are customizing. Confirm the list in your own system (SPRO, Quality Management, Quality Inspection, Inspection Lot Creation) because projects can add or deactivate types.

## Content

**Intro:** SAP QM controls what gets inspected and when through inspection types set in the material master QM view. This reference lists the standard inspection types most projects use and what each one is for.

**Sections:**

#### How to use this reference

**Body:** Search by inspection type number or by business event such as goods receipt, stock transfer or delivery. For each type you will see the trigger, the plan you normally need and a practical setup note. Use it when configuring a new plant, auditing why an inspection lot was not created, or explaining the QM view of the material master to a business user. Export the table to Excel to attach to your design document.

#### How inspection types work in SAP QM

**Body:** An inspection type is assigned per material and plant in the QM view of the material master. When an event occurs, such as a goods receipt, the system looks for an active inspection type that matches the event and creates an inspection lot. The inspection type also carries settings such as automatic usage decision, sample calculation and the way results are recorded. Lot creation depends on both the type being active and the QM control key being set correctly.

**Bullets:**

- Inspection type is set in the QM view per material and plant
- One material can have several active inspection types
- Origin of the lot is derived from the event, the type decides how it is processed
- Stock posting settings decide whether stock goes into quality inspection

#### Common mistakes

**Body:** Most missing inspection lots trace back to setup rather than a bug. Typical causes are the QM procurement active indicator being off at plant level, the inspection type not being active in the material master, no plan or specification being found, or the movement type not being linked to an inspection lot origin. Test with a real goods receipt in a sandbox and check the log in transaction QA32 before blaming configuration.

**Bullets:**

- Material master QM view saved but inspection type left inactive
- Missing plan with the right usage, so lot is created without characteristics
- Wrong plant in the QM view for the receiving plant in a stock transfer
- Assuming standard types still exist after a project simplified the customizing

**Cta:** Netray can help your team read and audit QM customizing across plants with ERP aware AI, read only by default. If you would like a review of your inspection setup, we are happy to take a look.

**Faq:**

#### Where do I maintain inspection types in SAP QM?

**Answer:** Per material in transaction MM02 on the Quality management view, under inspection setup. The list of available types and their parameters is customizing in SPRO under Quality Management, Quality Inspection, Inspection Lot Creation. Always confirm in your own system.

#### Why was no inspection lot created at goods receipt?

**Answer:** Typical reasons are an inactive inspection type, the QM procurement flag missing, no linked inspection lot origin for the movement type, or no plan found. Check the QM view first, then the application log for the goods movement.

#### Can one material have several inspection types?

**Answer:** Yes. A material can have several inspection types active at the same time, such as goods receipt and recurring inspection. Each type creates its own lot when its event happens.

#### Are these inspection types the same in S/4HANA?

**Answer:** The core types remain, but S/4HANA adds Fiori apps and some simplified processes. Always verify in your release because customizing and available apps differ between releases.
