**Notes:** Both scrap percentages are applied as multiplicative markups. In SAP, assembly scrap increases the requirement of all components of the assembly, and component scrap increases the requirement of one component. Confirm the exact behavior, including network scrap and operation scrap, in your own system before relying on it. Tweak the quantity column for a different order size and export to Excel.

## Content

**Intro:** Component requirement quantities in SAP depend on order quantity, BOM base quantity and several scrap percentages. This worksheet lets you test those numbers row by row before loading a BOM or reviewing why an order shows a particular component quantity.

**Sections:**

#### How to use this worksheet

**Body:** Add one row per BOM component. Enter the order quantity, the BOM base quantity and the component quantity as stored in the BOM item (STPO-MENGE). Add the component scrap percentage from the item and the assembly scrap percentage from the MRP 4 view of the parent material. The worksheet calculates the required quantity and the extended cost, then totals the cost.

**Bullets:**

- Delete the sample rows and paste your own or add rows one by one.
- Export to Excel to share with the BOM owner or costing team.

#### How scrap enters the calculation

**Body:** The base requirement is order quantity divided by BOM base quantity times item quantity. Component scrap, set on the item (and optionally in the MRP 4 view of the component), adds a percentage to that component only. Assembly scrap, set in the MRP 1 or MRP 4 view of the parent, scales up every component of the parent in the BOM explosion. Operation scrap on routing operations is a third type and is not included here.

#### Reading the output

**Body:** Compare the required quantity with the quantity on the production order reservation (COOIS component view or CO03). A difference usually means that the scrap indicator, a different BOM alternative, or a different lot size applied. The extended cost helps you see which components carry the scrap penalty, and scrap on high value items deserves attention first.

**Bullets:**

- Check for the relevancy to costing and BOM item category (stock item vs non stock).
- Material with a fixed quantity indicator does not scale with order size.

#### Common mistakes

**Body:** Entering scrap twice, once in the item and once in the material master, inflates requirements. Wrong base quantity (for example BOM base 100 with item quantity per piece) is the other classic. Also remember that the unit of measure of the BOM item may differ from the base unit of the component.

**Cta:** Netray can read BOM and order reservation data from SAP and flag components whose reserved quantity does not match the expected explosion, read-only and for review.

**Faq:**

#### What is the difference between assembly scrap and component scrap?

**Answer:** Assembly scrap is a percentage on the parent that increases the requirement for all of its components. Component scrap is a percentage on one BOM item that increases only that component.

#### Where do I maintain assembly scrap?

**Answer:** In the MRP 1 view of the parent material master (field Assembly scrap, MARC-AUSSS). Component scrap is in the BOM item (CS02) and a component scrap default can be maintained in MRP 4.

#### Does MRP use these scrap values?

**Answer:** Yes. MRP uses assembly and component scrap when exploding the BOM to create dependent requirements, and the production order reservation takes over the same values at order creation.

#### Why do my numbers differ from the SAP order?

**Answer:** The order may use a different BOM alternative, lot size, rounding, operation scrap, or a recalculated explosion date. Check the order header BOM selection and the reservation list.
